"Aaaaand that's a wrap!", Chuck announced through the speakers to the soundproof room.
Barbie exhaled, relieved that their recording session was over... The final recording session for the week.
Between a week's load of college classes for Malibu, both of them working their side job at Buddy's Café, and also trying to get in some recording time for a new song they were trying out for their upcoming debut single with the local radio station, both Brooklyn and Malibu were thoroughly exhausted.
All in all, though, a super productive week.
"Sounds great to me, what do you think? You think the harmony was good?", Barbie asked, setting down her guitar on the stand. Brooklyn nodded, cracking her fingers from the strain of tickling the ivories for several hours.
"Oh, totally! Better than the first few times we ran through it, at least", she added.
"Want a final listen?", Chuck asked. Both Barbies shook their head.
"Nah, I'm all good!", Brooklyn waved goodbye, "I'm beat!"
"No thanks, Chuck. I have to get going, actually. Maybe tomorrow if I have time we can come back and listen", Malibu also agreed that the time had come for them to head out on their way. A six-hour recording session on their already busy Saturday was plenty...
Brooklyn smirked knowingly, nudging her best friend and singing partner on the way out of the room.
"Got a hot date tonight with Mr. Handsome for Valentine's Day?"
Barbie blushed through her laugh, then nodded, "You might say that. But the thing is, Ken wouldn't let me plan anything! He said he had everything taken care of"
"Mmmmm hmmmm, giiiirrrl!", Brooklyn threw her arm around her friend's shoulder, "It sounds to me like your man's got it going on! You'll have to give me the details. Did he at least tell you where you're going?"
Shaking her head again as a negative, Barbie lifted her shoulders shyly, "Not at all! He said it's a complete surprise. All he told me was to be dressed to go out at 5:00 and he'll pick me up"
Brooklyn whistled appreciatively as they made it into the main lobby area of the Blown Speakers Studio.
"Oooooh, I am SO helping you pick something out! You're going to knock his socks off when I'm through with you!"
Barbie and Brooklyn both laughed at the thought of the blonde man totally flabbergasted and speechless at the sight of his beautiful date. However, their mirthful excitement was short-lived as a rather nasty tone seeped into the room, souring everything in its path.
"Well... The Barbies... Came here to record more songs that won't go anywhere?"
The girls turned their heads over to see another singing duo waiting their turn for a recording booth. Two women, both tall, light-skinned with long, curly red hair, casually propped up against the main desk. However, their looks and tones of voice dripped with disdain and sarcastic sass that didn't sit well with either of the Barbies.
Brooklyn rolled her eyes as Malibu sighed with frustration at the latest insult from the competitors.
"Ugh, seriously, Kallie? Go find someone else to torment", Brooklyn dryly threw back. Even Barbie wasn't having any of it.
"You know, you two have an equal shot of landing a record deal with anyone, just like we do...", and despite her typical niceness, the confidence boost from traveling with Jacinda did allow Barbie a bit of bragging rights, "Well... maybe... I mean, we did tour around the world with Jacinda, soooo...", she added in, shrugging innocently through her boast. Brooklyn cackled and agreed.
