Chapter 2: New Engineer

"Are you okay? You're so red." I looked down and bit my lip. "It's hot in here." I replied not looking. I can still hear his small giggles, just like how he always teased me 10 years ago.

After a few seconds, finally! The elevator opened again at the highest floor. I immediately got out there without looking back at him.

"What happened to you? You looked like you just saw a ghost." Jian surprised me. I walked to my office's sofa and let my body rest. "You're right, i saw a ghost. The playboy ghost of my past." I slapped my forehead a bit. "Ahhh!" I groaned.

"Stupid." Jian rolled her eyes and left the room. Ahhhh, relax Martine! Let's be professional and do our job done. He's our co-worker now..... But.. Then it means we will be seeing him every day? Oh, shit! How can i be okay with that?

"Miss Fernandez.." I was busy checking some paper works when Jian comes in... "There will be a welcoming party for the new Engineers later, they're all expecting you to come." She smiled teasingly.

"So... Are you coming or not?" She raised her brows. I shouldn't go right? For sure he'll be there. Ugh, then what they will think of me? Hayyyyst.

"I won't go. Tell them i have to meet a client tonight... Thank you." Jian shrugged then leave.

"You're not really going?" Jian asked me again before leaving. "Talk to me like a friend." I sulked. "Stupid." As always, she rolled her eyes at me. "Should i go?" I put the hand on my palm.

"For me, yes...... I think if you don't go, he'll suspect you. You want that? Then don't go." She's right... Fuck, what should i do..

Tyrese's POV

"I'm sorry new Engineers... Miss Fernandez couldn't go, she said she has to go meet a client tonight." I felt sad for some reason. I really looked forward to see her tonight.

"Engr. Valdez, you and Miss Fernandez graduated from the same University in high school right? Is she really the Math Goddess back then?" One of the New Engineers asked. I was quite shocked.

"Engr. Valdez?" I came back to my senses. "Huh?..... Ah... Yes, she's really good in math back then. That's why i really admired her.." Everyone was shocked. "Admired?!" They gasped in sync.

"I mean.. everyone admired her... because she's really that good at math." It's the truth tho. She always had the 'Best in Math' award, and even with the curricular activities, she always excel. I was gulping a beer when someone opened the door. "Ohhhhh!!" They all exclaimed.

I turned my back and saw Martine wearing a baby blue dress.

MARTINE'S POV

"There you are, Miss Fernandez.." Jian smiled at me the moment i entered the resto. "Good evening." I forced a smile.

"I thought you're not going, Ma'am.." One of the new Engineers said. The other two were being shy, it's because what happened earlier in the morning. "Hey there.." I teased to the two. It's obvious that they're feeling anxious for what happened.

Everyone was drinking and talking about each other lives. Tyrese seemed to be tipsy when someone called him and got out of the place. "You should talk to him." Jian offered as she chugged her drink.

Should i talk to him? Ugh, i don't know. Should i get a closure for my peace of mind?

I went outside and saw her talking with someone on the phone. When he finally noticed me, he immediately hung up.

"Hey.." Tyrese smiled. I walked pass by him without looking. "Tin.." I felt his warm hands hold my arms. "Can we talk?" A smile showed up from him. I shouldn't talk to him, right? It'll just make things complicated. Yes! Let's not talk to him..

"How are you? The last time i saw you was in the reunion, right?" He showed off a smile. "Yes.. 3 months ago.." It's still feels uneasy everytime i talk to him. Maybe it was just because he hurt me back then and we hadn't a proper closure.

A silence arise between us. I don't know what to say anymore, so i just stare at nowhere. "I'm so proud of you.." I was taken aback, he sure knows the soft spot of every woman.

"It's really you, Engr. Valdez.. The playboy in our batch.." I laughed, but i can see through his eyes the confusion. "That's already a decade ago." He chuckled a bit. "Old habits die hard.." I rolled my eyes at him.

"You don't believe me? Then look at this.." He handed me his phone and let me look through his messenger. "See?" He shrugged. "It's unlikely you, you know." I stick my tongue out. "Silly." He pinched my nose.

A moment of silence arise between us. "Ma'am Fernandez!" Jian showed up and excused me. "Lian is looking for you." She whispered. I suddenly remembered that we have to go to a party at 10 p.m.

"Excuse me, i have to go. Thank you." I coldly said. I saw the side of his lips rise before i left. When i was about to walk farther, someone grabbed my wrist. "Yes?" I raised my brows and looked at his hands on mine.

"Tin.. can i have your phone number?" My forehead scrunched. Does he think i'm that easy and i already forgot all of those ruthless things he did to me in the past? Well, he's wrong. My gaze changed. "Let go of me." He immediately did what i say and stood there waiting for me to answer his question.

"And Engr. Valdez, stop calling me by my first name. We're not that close and i'm your superior." I left.

He must really think that i'm still the girl he once played, the girl he used.

When i was at the front of the resto again, i turned and saw him talking to 2 other girls. "And.... that's so like him.." I smirked and walked away.
