Danny's POV
Why did her neck snap like that? So many thoughts are going through my mind. Who is that girl? Why is she here? Where are her parents? Why are her clothes so tattered? Suddenly all my thoughts come to a halt as the little girl starts to slowly move closer to me. She stares at me and doesn't say anything. Alright this is ... terrifying. I mentally slap myself for being scared of a child. Get your shit together Danny it is just a child. What harm could she possibly do? Maybe she is lost. Maybe she needs help. I clear my throat and decide maybe it's best if I try to communicate with her.
"H-hey there mysterious child in a tree. Could you please give me my phone back?" The girl just tilts her head.
"No? Um a-are you lost? Do you need any help?" Still the girl doesn't respond. Well this is awkward. The hell am I supposed to do? Suddenly my phone begins to ring. This scares the child and her first instinct was to throw it at my face. I don't know how but I barely managed to catch it almost dropping it. Safe. I look at my phone and see that it's Arny calling me. Damn he must be worried. How long have I been up here? Not important. I quickly answered.
"Bro where the hell are you?"
"Would you believe me if I told you that I am currently on top of a 20 foot tree, staring down a child that looks like she could be the female version of young Tarzan?" The other end is silent for a few seconds and then I hear an irritated sigh.
"One job. You had one job Danny." The child starts to move closer to me yet again and I slowly back away until my back hits the trunk of the tree.
"How did you even mange to get into a situation like this? Where are you?" I can still see Arny pretty clearly from where I'm standing.
"Turn around and look up."
"You're fucking kidding me. Alright I'm on my way."
"Please hurry. I don't know whether I should be scared or confused. Maybe both. It keeps coming closer and my body refuses to move" Arny hangs up and I close my eyes and take a deep breath. When I open my eyes the child is no where in sight. My heart drops into my stomach. Welp this is where I die. My heart can't handle this kind of stress. Suddenly her upper body appears in front of my face. She is currently dangling from the branch above me. I try to scream but nothing comes out of my mouth. The child just looks at me, her eyes scanning over me as if to examine me. I am frozen in place as I don't know how to react. Out of nowhere she reaches out her ands and gently takes a clump of my hair into her fists. After a few seconds she touches her own hair which is a bunch of frizzy tangled curls. She drops down fully from the branch and is now crouching in front of me. Does she want me to meet her at eye level or something? At this point I'm just acting on pure instinct alone. I slowly crouched down and looked at her.
"Do you like my hair?" She just tilts her head at me. "Do you even understand what I'm saying?" she tilts her head further to the side. "I guess not."
"DANNY!" Suddenly I hear Arby's voice at the bottom of the tree. The sound of Arny puts the child in high alert. She sort of shuffles behind me grabs hold of me. She growls while looking in Arny's direction. Oh so we're growling now. That's what we're doing. Ok. What did I get myself into? I slowly turn around and try to calm the child down.
"It's ok, it's ok. He won't hurt you." I put my hand out. "It's gonna be alright. Ok?" Crap she doesn't even know what I'm saying. How am I gonna get down without anyone getting hurt? Before I can even comprehend what's going on the child slowly puts her hand in mine. Shocked I slowly begin to get up. "That's it. That's right." I point down to the ground. "Can I go down? Will you let me go down" she looks at the ground and I believe she gets what I'm trying to say. She springs up and quickly starts descending down the tree while she continues to hold my hand. Once we get to the bottom I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.
"Oh thank god I thought I was never gonna come down." The child gazes at Arny, her curiosity piqued. I reach out to her, reassuring her, "This is my friend, Arny. He won't hurt you either." Arny offers a friendly wave, trying to put the child at ease. "Hey there. We're going to take you to a safe place, okay?" The child remains silent, but her curiosity wins over her fear as she pulls me toward Arny. It seems she's slowly warming up to the idea of having us around.
"So... what are we going to do about that?" Arny points the the child that is currently climbing up my back.
"Well" I say as I pick up my sword "we can't just leave her here can we?"
"From the looks of it I don't think she is even willing to let you go."
"So what are we just gonna take her with us? I don't know how to take care of a freaking kid."
"Well neither do I, but what choice do we have? If you haven't noticed this area isn't near civilization. This child could have been abandoned for all we know." I let out a sigh.
"You have a point let's take her back to the house we'll figure out what we're going to do once we get back." This is going to be a long night.
