"What am I supposed to do, sir?" Rain asked confused, every word that came out of his mouth couldn't hide at all how nervous he was. Payu noticed it immediately, he made a faint smile to calm him down, then he started talking softly, almost as he didn't want to hurt the young guy's ears.
"I'm very sorry for my colleague's behavior, he usually tends to exaggerate. You just have to give me that tray and I will be able to eat on my own, don't worry about the rest" Payu started.
"I don't mean to contradict you sir but the lieutenant's order was quite clear, sir..." Rain replied after gulping nervously, standing next to the table where he put the tray.
"So you're trying to question my order now?"
"No! I ... I just..."
"You just what, Rain?"
"I fear that I may get punished if I don't obey his order. He has already punished the guys who tried to sneak their phones and I fear that he may treat me even worse if I don't do as he says, sir" Rain responded without looking up at him.
Payu chuckled, he couldn't ignore how cute the guy in front of him was and he felt that sudden urge to protect him no matter the cost. He sighed and thought about a way to calm him down, so he said:
"Alright, I'll give you a choice. You can give me the tray and leave, if my colleague dares to try to punish you, inform me that I ordered you to do so and that it doesn't concern him."
"But..." Rain interrupted him.
"I'm not finished. Since I'm quite sure that you're too frightened to speak to him, then let's act accordingly, I will eat on my own and you will just sit right there in the corner and wait until I finish, it will be a secret between you and me, would that make you feel better?" Payu finished his offer and Rain nodded at the second option.
Rain handed him the tray, Payu looked at the dish and then back at Rain as he heard his stomach rumbling, he smiled a little and said: "I thought you already had dinner"
"Yes sir..."
"Are you still hungry?" Venice asked. It was obvious that Rain wanted to eat some more, especially considering that the meal for the officials was better than the ration of the new recruits, however he hesitantly shook his head.
"Are you sure? You know, I'm not that hungry but I don't want to throw this delicious... yummy... tempting steak. It would be a pity, don't you agree?" Payu asked with a little smirk as he noticed the way Rain was staring at that dish.
"W...well..." Rain stuttered.
Payu nodded, he moved his finger to tell the young recruit to come closer, then he said: "To be honest I'm not hungry anymore, eat it, you need it more than me..."
"But sir..."
"Do it before I change my mind" Venice added with a much more resolute tone. Rain nodded and took the tray back to the table and started eating ravenously.
Prapai came back after several minutes, he knocked on the door and entered soon after, he looked around and saw the empty tray, he smiled, happy that his cousin was recovering fast and remarked:
"It looks like you were pretty hungry, huh? Rain, remember to take that tray back to the kitchen, but make sure that the lieutenant doesn't need anything else first, clear?"
"Yes sir" Rain said, he turned to Payu, waiting to see if he still needed him.
"Rain, pour some water, you can go then" Venice said as he raised the glass that was on the night table next to the bed. Rain walked to him with the heavy carafe but tripped and ended up pouring some of the liquid onto Payu.
"What the hell, Rain!" Prapai shouted.
"It's fine... thank god it didn't get onto the blanket... you may go now, Rain..." Payu said with a slightly irritated tone.
"but..."
"I said that you may go now, don't force me to repeat myself" Payu replied, making the guy run away.
"he didn't even take the fucking tray... these new recruits are useless" Pai commented, he walked to the table and heard Payu's stomach grumble a little, he turned to him and sighed in frustration.
"Don't tell me that..." Pai started.
"Shut up" Payu replied as he got a clean shirt.
"Do you want me to see if they have some soup left in the kitchen?" Pai asked frowning.
"I can't deny that I would appreciate it..." Payu replied.
"Fine, I'll see what I can do, next time don't give your dinner to any hungry cute boy you encounter though..." Pai said as he left the room, dodging the shoe Payu threw at him.
