Sunlight glazed through the bay window at the front of our house in Texas, lighting up the front porch with a golden hue as the day broke away from the shackles of the night. Besides me laid Phillip, his eyes focused on the book he read as he enjoyed the early morning with us both wrapped up in bed.

"Good morning, sweetheart," He regarded, my arms now stretched out above my head whilst I let go of the last few clutches of sleep. "She slept through," he regarded, and his eyes lolled over towards our daughter's crib, her small sleeping form was more than enough to fill my heart with pride.

I snuggled closer to Phillip, "Good," I told him, "I can't believe you're going away tonight," I remarked, my arm wrapped around his front, "Can't you stay?" I asked him.

"You know I can't, mon amour," He placed a kiss atop my head and I felt his arms shift as he got up from the bed and move towards the crib whilst stretching, I noticed the happy trail as it peeked from beneath his T-shirt and above the plaid pyjama pants he wore. "As much as I'd love to." he scooped the sleeping baby from the crib, and wrapped her chubby arms around his neck.

My arms outstretched in a grabby gesture as he walked towards me with our daughter, "You are such a precious girl," I cooed, my own eyes being reflected in my daughters as she woke up slightly. Her chubby cheeks stretched into a tired smile, and I knew then how much I loved her, and how I'd do whatever I could to protect her.

"I'm gonna go get some coffee, you want some?" Phillip asked, and he didn't need me to answer as I was already passing across an empty mug to him whilst I pulled my daughter up with me so that she was sat between my legs.

She had her father's face shape, but my eyes and nose, and the more she grew, the more I realised she would be exactly like her father, which wasn't something I minded.

We spent the rest of the morning as normal, enjoying our day. But, what no one could predict, was a freak accident on the highway, which stole my daughters life, and left a rift in my own heart.

Water splashed across my face, and I woke up in a surgical room inside the hospital. As long as it wasn't the basement, I didn't care. But if they dared to put me down there, with all the radioactive waste, I would have a big fucking issue, and they'd all know about it.

There was a man in front of me, one that I didn't recognise, and he stood unprotected. He was unarmed, no weapon on him. And, you know what, I love a good challenge. "Get up." he told me, and I obliged a bit too eagerly.

When I was at level with this soldier, I shoved him with all the might of a God, his body slammed into the wall behind him, and I watched him as he fell over the edge of the half-wall, his screams fell on deaf ears, and he was silenced at the bottom. Presumably, dead.

I made my way to the hallway, my hands shaking as I hurried to the cell next to mine. The occupant was slouched against the wall, his eyes focused on the ceiling as it dripped onto us, "Alex," I hissed, my eyes not focusing on him, but rather down the hallway as I feared for the worst. At any point could a soldier run up here and just shoot blindly at me, and I'd be dead like that. There was no point dwelling on the what ifs, "Alex, for fuck sake!" I said, and he jumped from the corner of my eyes.

"Fury? What the fuck are you doing out here?" He asked me, and I could tell he was surprised just solely based on how he looked at me.

I snorted, "It's a long fucking story, well, not really," I told him, and allowed him to pull himself up, "I'll tell you when we're out of here," I said, and worked on unlocking the shitty lock on the door.

What? I wasn't always a goody-two-shoes, I know how to pick locks. How else was I supposed to sneak out when both my parent's were cops? C'mon now.

He hopped over to the now unlocked gate to his room, and he found my shoulders, his arm slumped around it as he settled his weight into me. I didn't mind it, hell, I'd carry him if I had to. He didn't weigh a ton, and I'm pretty sure I've carried heavier bags than what he weighed currently.
