"Um, Izzy, what are you doing?" I hear Mindy say, I guess they assigned her to share a room with me. "Well, you know how I found out my dad wasn't dead right?" she cautiously nodded "Yeah, what about it?" she questioned. "Well, he's here and he's taking me to live with him in Los Angeles." she looked disappointed "Oh so who's gonna be there for me at school? Who's gonna be my best friend?" I could tell there was a bit of anger in her voice, "Well, you know, I'll always be there for you and be your best friend and I heard there's gonna be new girl starting tomorrow, maybe she can keep you company and I'm always just a phone call away-" "Bullshit, Isabelle! You never call me when I don't show up at school and you never answer my calls! I don't believe for a second when you say you'll be there because you've never bothered to come and comfort me so why would you now?!"
It angered me that she had the audacity to even say that. "Really? I'm never there for you? How about when I needed help dealing with all the bastards pushing me around while you were a little bitch feeling sorry for yourself! How about all those times that I defended you and stood up to the motherfucking assholes for you while you curled up in a corner! Who was the one who went to school every fucking day wondering if you'd show up? I've gotten suspended for you, taking the blame, fighting for you and you keep feeling sorry for yourself and hiding in any corner you find! And if you really did call me, I'd answer it in a heartbeat, and the last time I called you, you got mad at me because your dad didn't want people calling you. So don't bitch at me because you don't have the fucking right to " I said the last sentence in a low voice seething through my teeth like venom.
I wrote down my phone number and grabbed my things, seeing as they were already packed, and set the piece of paper on the table next to her on the bed noticing the look of realization on her face. Still upset I said "Call me when you're done bitching and feeling sorry for yourself." slamming the door and storming off.
With all of my stuff, I made my way over to Andy. "What was all that yelling about?" he asked that's when I realized that there were people looking at me. "I'll explain later, can we go now?" I replied and he nodded helping me get my things in the car. Once we got in, Andy started the engine saying "You wanna explain now?" "It's a long story" I sighed "Well it's long ride home so you have time." he smirked.
I sighed and started to explain:
"In middle school, I didn't have any friends until there was a new girl. That girl was Mindy and her seat was right next to mine. We started talking and hanging out after school. One day she didn't show up to school so I went over to her house. That day I found out that her mom had died and Mindy only showed up to school once that whole week. She had told me that her dad was mistreating her and drinking heavily. She stayed with me and mom for two weeks until her dad came to the school and dismissed her. From then on she only came once or twice every week and if it weren't for me she'd still be in middle school, I had to knock some sense into her to get her to come regularly which worked surprisingly." I stopped to think; she was a bit right about me not being there as much but she has never been there for me. "She still didn't really show up much just whenever she wanted." "So you were always the one facing the people who didn't like you?" Andy interrupted, I nodded "Yeah and when I told her I was leaving she got all butt hurt saying that no one will be there for her..."
I continued telling Andy about the argument with Mindy and he listened until he laughed a little. What's so funny?" I asked "Just how worked up you are about this. You remind me of myself when I was about your age. I always got worked up when something pissed me off." he said with a smile plastered on his face. I remembered mom mentioning that one day when I got pissed off and flipped out. I wish she was still here, I miss her so much.
The rest of the way to Los Angeles, we talked about anything and everything, getting to know each other while listening to some good music. We laughed and played a few road games like the punch buggy one. Eventually I fell asleep and dreamed of what kind of life I would have now that I'm out of Oregon and heading to Los Angeles, California.
