April had been talking about this with Donnie for weeks. They needed something to do.

So they planned. They would do one of their most interactive plays ever! Splinter would be playing too!

Of course that meant there wouldn't be an audience, but if the boys get to spend time with their dad then it's be worth it.

The portal would be projected in the living room with a cardboard set up surrounding it. They actually packed their bags with supplies for a realistic effect.

Leo and Donnie argued over clothes and make up. Leo is an amazing make up artist for his age but the boy couldn't dress himself to save his life.

April smiled as they got ready; she stood behind Raph and Mikey as Leo and Donnie began.

"Alright guys, before we go any further, we must get papa's permission.", Donnie pushed a bunch of fake buttons that lit up and made sounds as Leo moved parts.

Splinter stepped from the shadows with his arms crossed behind his back and a stern look on his face.

"Boys. April. What are you doing?", he questioned slightly cold.

"Wow dad you're good at this!", chirped Leo with starry eyes, getting out of character.

Splinter turned bashful with a smile, he too got out of character.

"Oh, thank you blue...now back to the script!", he righted himself.

"Well dad- uh Master Splinter, we wanted to know if your could get permission to-", Raph began.

"No, whatever it is will mostly likely be too dangerous. I want none of this...", his order clear.

The boys drupe dramatically and April huff with frustration. She slid the bag off her shoulder and into Raph's waiting arms.

She marched forward.

"Master Splinter! Why can't you see the benefits of Donnie's creation! If we went to the future, then we'd know how to fix your mess!", she growled, a glare in her eye.

He regarded her with a blank expression, nothing being given a way.

"Martial Arts has always been the way...of.. the Hamato....", Master Splinter trailed off with a glimmer in his eye.

It was silent as he never finished his line. They all sag in confusion. Noting their worried looks, he straighten up again. A firm frown marrying his lips.

"April O'Neil. My boys may be fond of you, but you have yet proven your worth to the clan. If you wish to be a member, then I suggest you obey my authority.", he said, "You are dismissed."

Master Splinter walked all the way to the chair that was pushed to the wall and sat there. He gave her a thumbs up.

That was Mikey's cue. He waddled over to Donnie to pat him on the arm and held his sleeve.

"No worry! You more than enough!", he said from memory- exaggerating his tone.

April walked towards them and nodded with a sad smile. She gave him an encouraging nod. Donnie sigh.

"Oh woe is me! When will I ever be able to shine?", Donnie began to turn off the machine (Raph flicked the projector off.)

Once the others filed out of the room (in the corner with Splinter, April stayed behind to talk with Donnie.

"That wasn't fair, he always puts his narrow minded views above change!", muttered April.

"I know....but what can I do? He is right in that I am not...", Donnie trails off as he swiftly turns a way from her.

"I say we do it behind his back!", claimed April.

Donnie turned back to gasp with his hands on his cheeks.

"Blasphemy! Betray the trust of our father? I could never!", Donnie whispered.

He looked around the room, pretending to be searching for anyone listening.

"If he wants results then we give him them! We go to the future and gather as much information as we can.", she said.

Donnie brings his hand up to his chin to think about her idea. He nodded reluctantly.

"Okay but.. what about the others? Surely they will tell father.", he whispered.

"I know Leo will have our back. He will cover for us while we're gone. Raph... we can bribe him for silence. Mikey on the other hand..... that kids got a cute face but he's got one shady look in his eye. I say we don't tell him.", she said.

Donnie hesitated. He knew how Mikey was but he still didn't want to exclude him. She saw the struggle in him.

"We don't have a choice, if we want this to be smooth- we have to do this behind their backs. He was always Master Splinter's favorite anyway. Who is to say he won't stab us in the back?", she questioned softly.

Mikey bursts in to tears. They all stop to check on him.

"Why Apel? I'm good boy!", he whimpered from his pillow on the floor.

"I'm sorry Mikey, we are just pretending remember?", she said gently as she walked over to him.

Splinter wiped his tears and held him up. He comforted him as he whispered reassurances. April apologized a few more times before promising not to say that again.

"Think you can ever forgive me?", she asked hopeful.

Mikey looked at her with tear streaked eyes and a wet mask. He nodded with a little hum. They both smile.

"Okay, that's enough for now. Let's take a break before we continue. I'm sure we're all hungry.", Splinter smiled at them.

Splinter led them all to the kitchen. He sat Mikey down in his special chair as the others got seated. Raph and Donnie got in their chairs just fine, but Leo wanted a really high chair so it was hard to climb.

April boosted Leo into his silly chair before getting into her own. She sat between Donnie and Mikey. She glanced in Mikey's direction and lightly bumped his side.

He looked at her and she smiled at him again. He smiled back more brightly. They turn to Splinter.

He was cooking dumplings he prepared last night and stirring instant chocolate powder with milk. He hummed as he did this and got plates out.

Raph got out of his chair to help set the plates. Splinter patted his head. Raph brightened with an open smile.
