A world of misery and destruction only is met by the steps of humanities misfortunes. I shouldn't say misfortunes, it's more of humanity being ignorant and to put nicely, a whole group of nonsensical dumbasses.
These roads are empty, I'd expect much more out here by now to be honest. There is literally no presence of anyone. I'm still not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
~I looked around and walked, block after block. Step after step. Mile after mile.~
A few hours later, as so it felt, I spotted someone on a bench.
They aren't moving, I wonder if they're still alive, no harm in checking, I guess. If they aren't alive and coming for my head I always have my handy pistol.
~I took steps towards the bench, keeping my weapon drawn.~ Each step felt like my heartbeat was increasing. Every step felt more impactful, like drums slowly playing harder as I approached. As I approached it felt as if this was a bad idea.
I sure hope this person isn't infected, I haven't seen a person in far too long, and I sure don't want to see a dead one. Do I really keep going? Is it worth it? I took some time to think about it, but I didn't stop walking. At this point I felt it was too late to turn back. It was as if my legs were forced to keep moving forwards step after step. Even if I wanted to turn back at this point my legs physically would not stop moving; an unbreakable force kept pushing me forwards, similar to a whirlpool within a pool. And I'm talking a very strong ass whirlpool.
~I was a few meters away, I could see the person was a woman, she looked much worse for wear, and especially in worse condition than I was. She was laying on the bench with a rifle in hand, it doesn't seem to have a mag inside of it. Sure, she could have one in the chamber, but if she decides to shoot me, it's better than dying to a zombie. I'll take my chances. She looked a bit battered and bruised, and she looked tired.~
"It looks like you haven't seen a person in awhile." ~I stared at her as she moved her rifle towards my direction.~ I didn't really flinch at having a rifle pointing straight at my heart. I don't know, when you get into the apocalypse maybe you have less of an idea of danger. Maybe sometimes you have something to live for, sometimes you have nothing to live for; all I have to live for is the gift of being alive.
- " Just get it over and done with. If you want to shoot me there's no reason to drag it on any longer. " -
~I lowered my gun, a peace sign, let's call it.~
" As if I'd shoot someone like you. " ~
~She stared at my gun being lowered, her face had a slight recognition of still being alive, probably.~ - " Y - You don't seem nervous about me. " -
"In your current state, you look like you're falling apart."
~She took my hand, I could feel how fragile she was at the moment. I helped her off of the bench and supported her up. I was essentially picking her up without actually picking her up and carrying her.~
- " Names Kaeri, I didn't realize there was anyone alive anymore. Especially a hot person." - ~I heard her whisper under her breath, that certainly made me feel a bit better.~
~"Akira, I haven't even seen a soul, I was starting to think that I was the only one left. You might be hotter."~
~I saw her face turn a little red.~ She certainly realized that I heard what she said. Honestly, she was really hot. But I think survival is the bigger goal than anything else. No, I am not thinking about fucking her. Okay maybe I am a little bit. But c'mon, she's a hottie.
It felt good to have human interaction again. Honestly just a few more days and I'm sure I would have forgotten how to speak. Maybe not to that extent, but something like that.
"We should head to my place for a bit, you look like you need to rest up. I hope it's not too much of a trainwreck for you."
- " If we could, that would be nice. " -
~She gave me a smile, a bright one despite her body being in such a wrecked condition.~ I won't lie to myself, it was quite pretty.
- " I don't care how your place looks. I just want a place to be safe within. " -
We walked for a good distance, probably around halfway to my apartment; we don't have the glory of the fast tracking GPS location that we used to have, so I hope that I don't get lost trying to find the way back. I take a stare down at Kaeri, and then notice why does she think I'm her safeguard? Like I'm her protector?
"Wait, Kaeri. Why do you think I'm trustworthy enough that you want to be in the same living space as me?"
- " As if I really have a choice. You have a gun that actually has ammo in it, and you are likely a little stronger than me. " -
"Well, I think I could probably carry you." ~I proceeded to pick Kaeri up and carried her in my arms since she started to look like her legs were doing even worse than before. I'm surprised she even managed to walk for such a long distance.~ "I hope this isn't too awkward for you, but I was right, I can carry you."
Her face turned a light shade of pink, she wasn't expecting me to just pick her up. - " I-It's fine, this seems awfully romantic though. Maybe that says something about you. " -
"Oh trust me, I am absolutely, totally, horrific when it comes to relationships. At least that's what my past date told me."
- " You already got me in a good position for some romantic stuff. I can almost reach your face from here. If there's something I'm going to do before I inevitably die it's going to be kissing someone attractive. " -
"I'd say the same exact thing. I'm holding someone who's hot right now."
- " And someone who's hot is holding me right now. " -
I stopped walking, and looked down at her.
She looked up at me.
It was like a fantasy.
