It was September now.

Chan was happy with the payoff his project was giving to the hospital. Now a team of twelve doctors was also part of the action.

But as a plan that was to assist in another plan, it was not of great effectiveness, as it took away his search time and in that one month, everything he had found didn't help him much.

In any case, this did not disappoint him, as he felt that he was closer. Mason had been getting more excited.

Except for today, he was strangely tearful.

"C'mon little prince, I need you to get up, Channie needs to go to work, remember?" Chan was lying beside the boy on the bed, stroking his hair "Hannie is going out with you today, don't you want to?"

"I don't want to be with Hannie Jisunggie today, Channie. Can't you stay with me? It's Saturday!" When Mason pulled the covers off his face, his eyes were swollen and teary.

"It's Saturday, but I need to see a very special patient, it's just her, it's going to be quick. But first, I need you to tell me what's going on, okay?" 

The silence that ensued lasted for long minutes, but Chan didn't think to break it at all, giving Mason time was more important than his work at the moment.

"Today's my birthday" The sentence came whispered.

With everything that was going on, Chan had forgotten about it and his heart sank as if it weighed a hundred pounds.

"Today's daddy's birthday" The sentence came embargoed "And he's not here with us" 

Of this information, Chan did not know.

'...with us' Replayed in Chan's head a few times.

His first reaction was to circle the boy with his long arms and soon the small face was hidden in his chest. Chan was good at controlling emotions, but at that moment, he allowed tears to wet his face, he wasn't strong enough to hold them back.

"I'm so sorry for not saving him in time, Mason" Chan whispered, his voice choked "I haven't given up, and I'll never give up" 

"I know Channie, daddy... Daddy's waiting for us, I- I know we will save him" Now, Mason was the one caressing Chan's face, drying the tears.

The younger then climbed on top of Chan to lie down in his preferred way, listening to the older heartbeat.

"Your heart beats like daddy's, it means you're amazing just like him. Daddy's strong in his own way, I'm strong in my own way, and you're strong in your own way, in your own way I know you can save daddy, I'm not mad about it" Mason said playing with the sleeve of Chan's button-up shirt "It's his special day and I just wish he was here with us, it would be nice, don't you think?"

And, strangely, Chan allowed himself to wonder. Would Felix let them enjoy the sparkle in his smile and the happiness in his eyes? What would the spontaneous hugs he liked to give be like? Or his welcoming tone of voice? What would Mason's version be in his father's presence?

When Felix is really there, will he be the same as he once was? 

"I'm sure it would be awesome. I'm sure it will be awesome"
