Alex POV
I sat awkwardly at the breakfast table with my parents. Things surely did feel different with Tom being gone and all. My parents have barely spoken a word to anyone since that night. My parents just go to work, and when they’re not at work, they walk around the house, doing anything to distract them from the horrible thoughts that haunted them. Most mornings, I wouldn’t even come downstairs for breakfast, but I forced myself to eat this morning.
After a wonderful breakfast of Lucky Charms and apple juice, I decided that it was time for me to make my drive to school. I grabbed my bag, crawled into my tiny Cavalier, and drove the painful five miles to school.
Something felt different about today though. I felt like today might be a good day, at least I hoped. But I pushed the thoughts aside when I realized that I was in the student parking lot. I found a spot farthest away from the rest of the kids, and made my journey into the school. As soon as I entered the school, I put my headphones in my iPhone and played whatever song I fell asleep too. I walked over to my locker and started to enter my combination. I put all my books and binders away, and proceeded to my roll call so I wasn’t marked absent. I took the seat closest to the window in the back of the room.
I sat there for a good couple minutes before deciding that I should watch the morning announcements on the television. I always hated the way they ran things in the television studio. I mean, if I were a student in that program, then things would be much different than what they were. After the announcements ended, the door to my roll call opened. I thought that was very strange because everyone that was supposed to be in here, was in here. After the principal announced that there was a new student, he left the room and left the new kid standing there. He looked amazing. I tried to avoid making eye contact because I knew already that he was out of my league. But, what I didn’t realize is that the only seat available was right next to me.
After the new kid sat down, he took out his class list. I quietly and sneakily read it over. “Jack Barakat. What a wonderful name.” I thought to myself. I could tell that Jack was scared about being here. I mean, after all, everyone here is scary. All of a sudden, Jack drops his phone on the dirty floor. We both bent over to retrieve the battery, the back cover, and the phone itself. He looked at me and smiled. “Hi. I’m Jack.” The new boy uttered to me. “I’m Alex.” I replied. “Nice too meet you Alex.” After that awkward conversation, we both turned back to the front of the room and stared that the board, waiting for the bell to ring.Alex liked the way the Jack dressed. The way his New Found Glory shirt hugged his body, and the way his jeans hugged his hips and down his legs left Alex out of breath.
Jack noticed Alex staring at him right away. This made Jack blush immensely. The bell signaling that roll call was over started to ring. Alex got up to start walking away, but a voice stopped him dead in his tracks. It was Jacks voice. “This school is so confusing too me. My first class is English. I don’t really know where the room is. Can you show me where it is?” Jack asked Alex. Without thinking, Alex agreed to it and the boys started to walk down the hallway. Alex decided that he should take a look at Jacks schedule to learn where his English class is. After scanning over Jack’s schedule, he learned that he had a lot of classes with Jack. This made him really happy. Before Alex had known it, they were standing outside of their first class together. They quickly made their way in. Alex took his normal seat in the front while Jack went to introduce himself to the teacher. She welcomed Jack and introduced him to the class. Alex could tell that Jack was embarrassed because his face turned tomato red. After the introduction, the women told Jack that he could find a seat anywhere in the room that he would like. Fortunately for me, the only empty seat in the room was next to me. So he gladly sat down next to me. I apologized for the teacher. “She loves all her students dearly. When she gets a new one, she always hugs them and introduces the class to their new classmate. You’ll get used to it.” I told Jack. English was my favorite class.
