Trouble in the light

"I thought you had patrol today?" My father poked his head around my door.

"Uh, no. I took the day off." I looked up at him from my bed.

"Are you feeling alright?" He steps through the doorway and closes the door behind him.

"I'm not sure. One of my friends went missing, and I'm worried." But I can guess where he is.

"I'm sorry. I know it's hard when someone you care for leaves. But I'm sure they're ok." He takes a seat at the end of my bed.

I tucked my legs up to my chest, "he didn't leave."

"Of course not." he shifts a bit closer and pats my knee. "But if you need anyone to talk to, I'll be right here."

"Thank you." You won't have to worry about me bothering you anytime soon.

Knock knock knock

"I'll get it," I say and unfold myself.

As I open my door and step out, I look back. Britain looks back at me like he always does.

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK

"Coming!" I yell. Inpatient bastard.

When I reach the front door, I can hear someone yelling on the other side.

"-fucking! Open the door and stop avoiding me, you coward!"

I unlock and open the door as fast as I can.

North Korea stumbles back a step to avoid getting hit. His eyes stare directly at me, and I don't think I've ever seen him so mad.

"Fucking bitch ass coward." He states, much like one would state that the sun was bright.

"Thanks," I huff. "What brings your loud mouth here today?"

"I've got a lot of fucking questions," he waves a few papers in my face, "and you bet your ass you're answering them."

I glance to the side and then back at him. Even if I don't let you in, you'll find a way in, won't you?

"Ok then." I step to the side.

And before I can even tell him to come inside, he pushes past me. Kicking off his shoes, rather violently at that. He stomps up the stairs, and I am forced to run after him to catch up.

The two of us pause at my open door. My father is still there, just now at my desk. He's looking through some old reports I got my hands on about some of his arrests.

He looks up at us, "sorry boys, I'll get out of your hair."

After he leaves and the two of us settle, North on my deck chair and me on my bed, North breaks the silence.

"Your old man's a creep."

"You said that last week, glad there haven't been any big changes."

"What was he even doing anyway? He's as nosy as you, just not as sneaky, and looks like a cockroach while he does it."

"He came in to make sure I was ok, guess he didn't leave when I did." I cross my arms and fall back onto my pillow.

North abruptly shouts, "hey wait a minute! You're trying to distract me!"

"I'm really not, you asked first. I'm just answering your questions like you wanted me to." I twist slightly to look at him.

"Whatever. Just don't do it again. I want to leave." he huffs and crosses his legs. "Your house gives me the shivers."
