Hunter's keys jingled as he unlocked the door of his new apartment. He opened the door and he was greeted with a subdued, grey-looking place. Well, as long as he wasn't living back home, Hunter could take it.
He put his suitcase in his new room and flopped fown onto his bed. At least he had a nice view from his window over the city. He couldn't really say the same about back home.
Hunter came from a troubled family. His parents died when he was young and his uncle, Philip, was a neglectful man who never gave Hunter the attention he so desperately craved for.
I should call myself lucky that I got a scholarship at Oxide's College, Hunter thought as he started unpacking his belongings. I can't blow this. This is my one chance to live a life free from him and I'm not gonna screw it up. Not this time.
Hunter heard a knock on the door, rapping numerous times. He had a strong idea who it may be. He sighed as he swung the door open to reveal a shorter latina girl with an orange beanie brown varsity jacket and a purple striped shirt.
"Heyyy Hunter! My man! My bro! My homie!" she said, inviting herself in. "Wow, janky place you have here my dude. Could do with some brightening up, doncha think?" She flopped down on the patchy couch as she scanned the place.
"I got it pretty cheap, it'll do. And aren't you supposed to be unpacking in your own place, Luz?" Hunter frowned, folding his arms.
Luz looked down, suddenly embarassed. "There was a pretty girl with purple hair in the apartment next to me. She said hi and I panicked, heh-" Hunter let out a snicker -"and plus, wherever you go, I go, amigo! I didn't sign up to your college for nothing!"
"Yeah, I got that memo, unfortunately," Hunter grumbled, folding his clothes.
Luz was his only friend. They had met when they were kids, and Hunter would always go to her family when his uncle was getting him down. He loved spending time with Luz, her twin sister Vee, and their mother Camila. They were basically family to him, something that his uncle wasn't. So naturally, Luz wouldn't let him go off to college by himself with no other friends, so she invited herself as a package deal. However all over the place Luz may be and however much she sucked at talking to girls, Hunter valued Luz more than anyone else and loved her like a sister, though he would rarely let that on.
"What kind of decoration are you thinking of putting up here?" Luz said, looking around at the bare, grey walls.
"I was thinking about getting a bird," said Hunter. "I saw this red one in the pet store as I was passing, and-"
"Uhhh, no way dude," Luz scoffed. "You're a mess with animals. Remember what happened when we babysat Jacob from down the road's cat?"
"That was one time! We don't talk about that."
"How about some plants? That'll really brighten this place up."
"That's... not a bad idea actually," said Hunter, surprised.
"Well, y'know, I am sort of a genius," Luz smirked, flipping her hair. "On top of being your amazing sister, absolute girlboss, and the fantastic president of the Good Witch Azura book club!"
"You mean former president? You had to shut it down, remember?"
"Yeeeeeah, I knowww," Luz groaned. "Hey!" she suddenly jumped up from the couch. "What if I invite the girl to join my club? I can get close to her that way!" She ran out of the door. "You're a genuis, Hunter!"
"Tch," Hunter sniggered, amused. Okay, where can I get flowers from?
