There was something about the sound of the TARDIS engines that brought a warm smile to my face. It was a beautiful sound, angelic almost. My whole life I had yearned to see one. Having crash landed in the 1800's many years ago, I never thought I'd get the chance. That was until I ran into the Doctor. I remember that day so clearly, and everyone who was involved. That day I had just gotten my coffee when danger called. That's when I saw him the first time. He was with a young woman, Rose. Oh how wonderful Rose was. She was smart, brilliant even, and beautiful. But it wasn't our first meeting where I found out I was no longer alone in the universe.
It was definitely a shock when I felt the Doctor's hearts beating in his chest, but in that moment, I had never felt so much excitement, despite the circumstances we found each other in. Taking a break from my thoughts, I looked over in the Doctor's direction as he spun around the control panel, pushing buttons and pulling leavers. There was something about the way he danced around his machine that made me feel a little more in love with the man. Walking over to join him, I reached out and caught one of his hands in mine.
After Rose was sealed off in a parallel universe, the Doctor and I had met some amazing people, and even made a few friends. Donna had appeared in the TARDIS while we were in mid space, that's when we met her for the first time. After that, Martha Jones, a young doctor, traveled with us for a bit. She was clever, caring, and determined in the end. The Doctor and I found out we weren't the only two Timelords left in the universe, just to have our hearts crushed by our own kind. I hadn't seen the Doctor that heartbroken since we lost Rose.
We had traveled in a spaceship designed after the Titanic, and saved it from crashing to Earth on Christmas. With a few injuries, the Doctor and I made it out, and so did many others. Then? After all that, somehow, Donna Noble made her way back into our lives. Of course, it had been completely by accident, but the Doctor and I both took it as a coincidence. Together we all three traveled for many months. Over time, the Doctor and Donna had bonded as friends, we all had. That's what happens when you travel with someone for so long, you become attached. It was when we lost Donna, that the Doctor's heart broke again.
Having to wipe her memory for her safety, the Doctor lost another friend that day. As did I, but I cared more for the Doctor in that moment then I did myself. After losing Donna however, we've traveled alone ever since. A part of me believes that the Doctor can't bare losing someone else, and that's why he's decided not to bring anyone along with us on our journey through life. Tangling my fingers with the Doctor's, his eyes fluttered up to meet mine with kindness. My heart fluttered as he gripped my hand in return, and I couldn't help but lean over and plant a kiss to his cheek.
Scruffy, the Doctor smirked in my direction as he threw down a big switch on the console, sending us into motion. We both took hold of the railings nearby, and held on tight as the TARDIS whistled, and hummed as she flew. Things in the TARDIS had been rough. There wasn't much conversation held between us over the last few days, but then again, I couldn't blame him. The Doctor and I both know that grief comes when it's ready.
Finally, the TARDIS made her classic thud as we came to land on solid ground. Briefly, a silence fell between us as the Doctor flicked on the monitor to see where we had landed. "Oh, lovely." He hummed, before looking right at me. "We're going to need space suits for this one, Cara. Are you ready?" Smiling at me, the Doctor held out his hand, and of course, I took it with a smile.
Trotting behind him was we wove through the TARDIS hallways; it didn't take us long to find what we needed. Grabbing one of the orange space suits, I couldn't help but scrunch up my nose. "What an ugly color," I commented with a snort, and the Doctor looked slightly offended. "Do you not have one in something less...bold?" Winking in his direction, I watched as he wiggled his nose in retort. It didn't take us long to change, and in minutes we were opening the TARDIS doors. As they swung open, a beautiful red, and orange surface came into view. I felt my heart jump in excitement, it wasn't hard to guess where we were.
