Catching you in his embrace, it was like the world suddenly calmed around you.
With tears free falling, you held nothing back as you felt finally at peace in Jameson's arms. "It's been so long," he whispered into your hair, his own words muddled by tears.
Pulling away, you stretched your hands across his face and looked at him, really looked at him for the first time.
He seemed taller, more lean. His boyish face was still the same though, just as you had remembered. The way his eyes lit up and his signature grin.
You had forgotten his smell though and the warmth of his lanky limbs, making it all the more special for him to be here right now.
"I've missed you so much. You have to tell me everything about America," you said with a laugh, the emotion still clear in your voice.
"Yes, Jameson. I too would be delighted to hear about your adventures in the states. It must've been quite lovely there, away from all this chaos," Lucius commented, not far behind you.
"Of course, sir. Thank you again Mr. Malfoy for inviting me into your home. I really appreciate it given the current state of our world," Jameson said graciously, not missing a beat.
It was a clear power move from Lucius, one meant to show dominance and make a clear point to Jameson about how he abandoned you here, just hidden behind niceties.
You caught on to what Lucius was trying to say and were secretly glad that he'd said something to defend you. You'd never bring it up to Jameson, but the truth was that he had abandoned you all those months ago. And left you all alone.
"It's nice to see you as well Draco," Jameson commented, looking over to the corner of the room Draco was curled into.
At the mention of his name, Draco's head perked up and he unfolded his arms. He was shocked that Jameson was even speaking to him.
"Yes, you as well. I hope the states were nice," he replied plainly, no hint of sarcasm in his voice.
You almost did a double take, completely surprised and taken aback that Draco was being so nice to Jameson. It was so uncharacteristic given their past together at Hogwarts, you found it quite endearing that he was willing to try and be civil outside of that world now.
Jameson however was walking a very thin line, trying to remain polite and composed despite their troubled past encounters. You could see it on his face.
"Well, the chefs will put together a lovely dinner tomorrow evening so we can all get together and hear about it. Please do settle in and make yourself at home Jameson. I'm sure your sister has much to discuss with you," Lucius said with a small smile.
"Thank you, Mr. Malfoy," Jameson replied kindly, despite that small twitch in his lip only you noticed.
He put on a damn good poker face. You knew for certain now that he was not happy about being here with Draco.
"Let me show you to your room, sir," a servant said to Jameson, gesturing to the hall past the library.
He nodded his head and followed behind her, giving you a small wave. At his departure, Lucius put his hand at the small of your back and led you out of the main foyer.
"How're you feeling love? I know it's been quite some time since seeing him," he asked you genuinely while gently rubbing your arm, now away from Draco.
"I'm so happy. I can't tell you how grateful I am to have him here. Thank you for everything you've done to help, Lucius,"
You hugged him tightly, showing your appreciation which he happily returned leaning into you.
