Now that Cassiopeia was sixteen, her father had become weaker due to old age and illness. As she entered his bedroom with breakfast, she frowned at the sight of how weak he had gotten. "I made breakfast father." She fake smiled and sat the plate on the nightstand. She sat on the edge of the bed when her father didn't respond. He had gotten to weak to do so. She gently rubbed his leg and stood to walk to the door. He shakily reached out to her. "Stay," he whispered, so she sat back down higher up on the bed. He tried to sit up so she helped him. He gently wrapped his arms around her. "I am sorry Cassie, I'm sorry I couldn't get them to let you into the house of Lords. I tried, I did. But I'm afraid that you will be marrying Edward." His voice was quiet and sounded more like someone breathing, but she heard it. She hated the idea of marriage and said it got in the way of things. But if it's what her father wanted she would do it. Both families agreed that Edward would be taking the last name of Black to gain the spot in the house of Lords.
Cassiopeia had left the room to get dressed for the day, since she was supposed to be meeting Edward. She walked back into Sirius' room to say goodbye, when she saw his head against his shoulder. At this point it was difficult to tell if he was dead or alive. She ran over to the bed and pressed her ear against his chest. She didn't hear him breathing or his heart beat. She blinked back tears. She wanted to cry and knew she should, but she had ten minutes before she was to meet Edward.
Ten minutes passed quickly. She walked with Edward to the woods and sat on a picnic blanket. "I know you don't want to get married, and neither do I. My family wishes for me to be a lord, I'll let you make all the decisions and write all the speeches." He explained as she placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I have a better plan." She smiled through the pain of losing her father. He visually relaxed and smiled. "What's your plan?" He was intrigued. "We run away, get on a train to London. We can make a name for ourselves and we won't have to get married to have a life." She explains, she had always loved going to London with her father for work.
