- WHO IS Y/N? -
Play ▶️: No Roots

"WHAT WENT inside that mind of yours, Y/N? You refused to do the work we offered, and yet here you are, playing with fire, being a gofer," Amuro asked, being slightly nervous by the idea of you going off your path.

"Well, I guess I better thank you as I won't have to step a foot on the minefield anymore." He scoffed in an attempt to brush off his thoughts, which are now a mess because of you.

You just laid your head on the headrest as he drove his car. He is lucky indeed, if you decide to cooperate with him, that is.

You've been trying to escape for years now, who would've thought that asking about the suspicious poster you saw would bring you back to the lair you always thought was not for you?

Making money and fulfilling your empty and bored body was all you could think about, which is why you contacted them. You had your doubts and confirmed them when Sanzu almost killed you.

I didn't even contact them for years, but fate really has its own way, huh?

You thought to yourself, sighing, admitting defeat against the unfair world.

"I hope you're still aware of the fact that I am not the type to follow a certain script," you finally said, reminding the man driving beside you.

"It's all small stuff, Y/N," he replied, giving you an assurance.

Well, it's only a matter of time before you contact them again anyway, since you can't just go on their way and adapt to their environment. It would be against your morals and principles.

You chuckled at the thought—do I even still have those things? Morals and principles, huh?

You shot your eyes open and saw the familiar streets, you yawned and stared at one streetlight as if being enticed by it, quickly removing the seatbelts and gathering your things, you started to order Amuro around.

"Stop the car."

"What?"

"We're not in some kind of drama, just stop the fucking car," the man made a face before complying.

As soon as you got out, you walked through the empty streets to get to your rented apartment.

"I'm home," you declared, pretending that there was someone at your home waiting for your arrival.

Normally, people who have lived alone for years get used to the emptiness and peacefulness of their apartment or home, but it was the opposite for you. Not even once have you experienced the feeling of being used to this kind of situation; to this day, you're still getting homesick.

You definitely want to go and visit your loved ones, but you can't and shouldn't.

You wouldn't dare do that.

Sighing and putting your dirty clothes and bag in an empty basket, you went to your laundry area. Heaven must be on your side as you reached for the machine that was placed high enough for you to look up.

Throughout the time that you're "doing" the laundry, you've tried to observe, through your peripheral vision while looking up, the mini-camera that was placed on the corner of the ceiling.

"I'm being watched..." You said the obvious to yourself, being careful with your actions and facial expressions. You started to get nervous. Bonten is a criminal organization, for them to be careful like this rather than going for their prey and intimidating them is dangerous.

It simply means that they treat you as a threat.

"They might as well just kill me if it's going to be like this."

Although you're getting to experience their most dangerous side right now, Bonten behaving like this makes me feel delighted. It's almost as if you could feel your blood rushing to your heart and brain—you were filled with ecstasy.

You covered your mouth with your arm, still acting like you got something on your face and were wiping it, when in fact you were trying to hide the grin plastered on your lips. Their actions were reminding you of that quote.

Rouse him and learn the principle of his activity or inactivity. Force him to reveal himself so as to find out his vulnerable spots. —Sun Tzu's Art of War

"Right, you've got to at least do one of all things right."

"I'm feeling happy, as if someone just praised me." Sanzu cluelessly blurted out, scratching his cheek with one finger.

Takeomi put out the fire in his cigarette and clicked his tongue. "Crazy kid, it's the drugs, I tell you."

Rindou pushed away the laptop. "No, but I also feel the same way."

"Ah, so Haruchiyo gave you a drug?" Ran concluded with a glare.

"No?! What the fuck?"

"Then he drugged you?" Kakucho, for some reason, butted in. He fixed the laptop that Rindou pushed away and continued to watch you "do your laundry."

"Why would I fucking do that?"

"Because you're a criminal?" Koko like the fucking clown he is, answered Sanzu.

"And you're not?"

Ran, despite being annoyed by the noise that he started, ignored everyone and did the same thing as Kakucho.

"This is not how we do things, normally one of us follows them personally and watches them until they fuck up, what's up with us now?" Ran giggled like a little kid while playing with the ring between his fingers.

Koko left Sanzu alone and whistled his way to converse with Ran "It's impossible for her to fuck up, you saw how her brain works."

"I... just have a feeling that she'll somehow know it if we follow her instead of watching her like this." Mochi, who has been trying to stay silent since earlier, finally spoke, thinking greatly of you.

"I'll know if they followed me. That's probably what they're thinking right now." You deduced solely based on their action of secretly putting a camera on your apartment while you were still out, and that wasn't exactly good news for you, but still.. there was still something that would create an argument against their thoughts...

Rindou slammed his hands on the table, making the ashtray flip. Of course, the laptop was in the way, so you could just imagine the amount of dirt the gadget has right now.

"What do you mean she can't fuck up? She already fucked up when she told us to handle those men, if we hadn't cleaned up after her, she'd be dead, you know?"

Everyone looked at the man what he said made sense you displayed intelligence and competency, but that was shattered when you made that on-the-spot plan.

"There was no way in hell that she'd know if one of us followed her, I don't get why we're putting in effort like this!" He added.

Sanzu cringed at Rindou's constant screaming and nagging, he made a disgusted face before happily turning to his boss.

"What do you think, boss?"

Mikey's face remained the usual grimace he always makes, the unpredictable and the one you wouldn't be able to read.

"And then there's Mikey, the guy that Takemichi wanted to save, the guy beyond saving..."

Your mood switched from being happy to being serious once again. Someone who's carrying the burden of someone else's mistake would be quite a handful.

"I have no problem with her," he said in a low voice, making everyone swallow up their opinions on you.

Since it wouldn't be a problem if we ever caught a rat trying to play the role of a cat.
