It was evening when he got the call. The call that would, indefinitely, change his future.
"Hello?" I spoke into the phone, tired and irritated that I had gotten a call so late. The caller started his obviously rehearsed speech almost immediately.
"Hello, Dark Cacao. I understand you've been with this company for... nineteen years?" The speaker paused, waiting for a reply. "Yes, that's correct" I muttered, guessing where this was going.
"We are disappointed to admit that you are no longer satisfying the company's needs, as a result of this we are letting you go. We no longer need... your company." The person snickered at his own joke, but cleared his throat.
Nonetheless, I wasn't surprised. It was only a matter of time before they fired me. And then he continued, before I could even say anything.
"At least, not with us. There's an upcoming figure skater, and they need a partner. You might have heard of him, they're heading to the pre-Olympics soon and need a coach. You're quite experienced, so maybe you could help him out, yeah?" I sighed.
"Okay. What's his name?" I pulled out the hairband that held my hair in a bun, letting my hair fall, the length of it dipping to my hips. I wasn't overly excited to help some kid get better than I was, but it was better to at least see who they were.
"Pure Vanilla."
...
I stepped out of the bathroom, having dried my hair with a towel and put it back up into a bun. My bangs framed my face, although they weren't too long due to the layers that a friend had cut. (Thanks, Hollyberry.)
Putting on my shoes, grabbing my skates and my skating bag, I grabbed my phone and headed for the door. I figured I'd eat breakfast on the way.
And so, I got in my car and started the engine, already prepared to be on my way to the Frozen Floor, where I would meet him.
(Where his life would change.)
