cliché but I like it

Oh.

Thats.. odd.

So, I'm sure other people out there when they see the first sign or their soulmates, get all happy and stuff, but uh..

I dunno about this.

See, everyone has a different way to see their soulmates. It usually appears when they mature, or have a certain change in their lives.

The most common sign of a soulmate is a marking somewhere on their body, that symbolizes the other in some way. It's a vague one, but the two are known to not usually be far from each other.

There are a couple of other ones, but I'm not in the mood to name them.

Anyways, mine actually just showed up.

I was in the middle of scooping some uh,, coffee beans, when a thin, red string dropped down from the ceiling- yeah, it spooked me.

It snaked its way around my wrist, though I could barely feel a thing. That was, until it tightened.

"Yo, (Y/N,) you alright? You're spilling the beans."

I flinched. OH SHIT--

I straightened out my arm, lifting the coffee bean shovel up. I had let it ever so slightly tilt and down the beans went.

"AW CRAP-- I'm so sorry!" I blurt out and shove the tool into the bin, rushing to grab the broom which rested across the room.

Forgetting about the string, I nearly fall backwards after being tugged back by it; great timing.

"AH!?--" Luckily, I'm caught by my co-worker, Mug.

In utter embarrassment and shame, I cover my face with both of my hands.

"Oh my God." I whisper.

"What has gotten into you? You just- caused a whole scene over like.. nothing. The beans are an easy clean-up."

I steadied myself, careful not to pull the string too harshly, and Mug lets go.

"So uh, I.. well-- This thing came up." I raise my hand, showing it off to Mug.

"I don't see anything."

OH YEAH, THATS RIGHT.

I pull my hand down quickly.

"..I forgot. You can't see it. A string showed up on my wrist."

He mouthed an 'o', and picked up the broom you reached for earlier. He handed it to you.

"Just clean up. I'll tell boss one of the scoopers weren't  cleaned properly and you lost your grip. Congrats, but be careful." He smiled at me, before walking back to his spot at the counter.

I grumble to myself, taking the broom and dragging it across the floor where the beans fell. Haha. Beans.

I feel another tug on my string. Seriously?

I look up.

..wait.

The string isn't necessarily from the ceiling.

It's above it.

What the hell??

I stop and stare, lost in thought.

The cafe isn't a two-story building, and nobody has access to the roof.

How in the world could my soulmate be above me right now?

"(Y/N), hurry up. We've got 15 minutes until we close and the health inspectors are coming in two days." Mug snaps, hands working the cash register like a pro as he hands a customer their change.
