Calen's POV
It's a weird feeling, becoming invisible.
The Giovanni's don't even acknowledge my existence on this earth.
I eat in silence.
I sit in silence.
I go days where the only words I utter are "yes, sir. Yes ma'am".
I continue to watch over Dorian and Aylah's dates.
He brags incessantly and she's mastered the art of the fake laugh.
She holds his hand.
He kisses her.
I feel fucking sick.
I continue to be her shadow. I notice that on her dates she heeds my advice and does not put herself in the position to be behind doors with him. She looks over her shoulder every once a while and meets my gaze for a split second.
"Riot!" I hear my name called from downstairs.
I quickly make my way downstairs. Dorian and his own bodyguard stand by the door with Aylah.
"Yes, sir."
"We've made the decision to have both of you on our outing today. There's been word that our alliance has generated some competition. I'll let you two get acquainted." He takes Aylah's hand and leads her out of the sliding glass doors.
His bodyguard stands my height at 6'4 with brown hair and eyes. He's built and has a glint in his eye that makes me feel on edge.
"Riot." I say, extending my hand to him. He clasps my hand.
"Archer." He says.
We both look outside to see Dorian distracted with Aylah.
"What's your name?" He asks.
I hesitate and scan the room to see if anyone is around.
"Damn, bro. They have you well trained."
Fury courses through my veins.
The look I gave him must have been lethal as he puts his hands up.
"Woah, Woah dude. I was joking. I'm Dorian Galantes bodyguard. I get it."
I calm myself and nod.
"Calen." I answer. He nods with a smile. He reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a small, shiny object.
"Well, Calen, judging from the way you constantly glance at them and that nasty looking wound peaking out from you shirt, I'd say you need this more than anyone."
He shakes the flask as he smirks.
I turn my back to the window and grab the flask. I throw the liquid down my throat and relish the burn.
For the first time in a long time, I feel alive.
"Atta boy." He says and claps my shoulder. He turns to go outside.
"Wait, what's your name?" I call out.
"Oh, I'm not risking that, are you fucking crazy?" He responds.
I throw my head back in laughter.
"Now, come on, Riot. Our masters await."
