as mike sat in english, clearly not listening, he glanced over at el on the other aisle next to him.

they were only a seat away, them both sitting at the ends.

el slowly turned her head, noticing his glance and she titled her head just gently to the side in confusion before looking back at the front again.

he frowned a little, looking down at the floor.

as much as he wanted to be el's friend even in real life, he knew he couldn't.

el admitted she wanted someone that she could talk to that didn't know who she was in real life.

she needed someone like that and that was him.

lucas leaned in to whisper to el. "i just want to sleep, the teacher is so boring."

she looked at him and he nodded at her. "let's send funny photos to max and dustin's,"

she tilted her head in confusion as lucas pulled up snapchat and put on a filter for the two of them.

"come on, make a funny face. max would find it hilarious,"

el kept her face straight, a puppy filter on her as lucas made the silliest face and sent it over in the group chat.

"now one with a silly hat," he said and she slowly plastered on a small smile, though fake, but a smile just for max and dustin.

lucas turned when he noticed her expression, then grinned widely just as she looked down, clearly done with photos.

mike turned to look at her once more, her not noticing due to her gaze being fixated on her fidgeting fingers instead.
