𝐒𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: You ran away from your abusive ex....after a few months he came looking for you. Good for you, you had such a great neighbour.

𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: (neighbour)Steve Rogers x Reader

𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: abusive ex(called Matthew here), talking about toxic relationships

This idea came in my mind while watching the show 911

Keep in mind English is not my first language!

Not beta read.

Steve noticed someone moving into the apartment next to him. He could hear stuff moving, quite walking or cooking and quite music, sometimes even singing. But he never saw you. It's like you were only existing in his head-or behind his wall, but as soon as he entered the hallway you were gone. No singing, no walking, no music...it's like you were trying to hide your existence.
Maybe you didn't like people?
That's how he felt at first, after he came out of the ice. He avoided all people in the building-even the friendly old lady, Linda, that lived in the Apartment below. Yet he quickly opened up to her, after she baked cookies and came knocking on his door. He couldn't send her away. Instead he invited her in and they talked. She recognised him and they talked about the war-her dad was one of the people Steve had saved. This old lady made him realise, he had to be more open towards other people.
He decided to do the same for you. Be the friendly neighbour who'll come with baked cookies.
First, he needed the cookies.
Since Steve wasn't a good baker, so he bought everything he needed and knocked on Linda's door. She seemed surprised seeing him at a Friday forenoon,  not at their usual Sunday 'brunch-afternoon'.
"I need your help, Linda", he greeted her, which made her slightly rise her eyebrows. Steve blushed. "Good Morning, I need your help, Linda, please", he corrected himself. This satisfied her and she let him in. He always liked how he could be himself while spending time with Linda-not Captain America.
"So, Stevie, what do you need?", she asked while taking two cups out of the cupboard to make some tea. Steve smiled slightly. He got a bit nervous thinking about what he wanted to do. "I think someone moved in the apartment next to mine and...I'd like to bring some cookies but I can't bake for shi-" "-Steven, don't even think about finishing this sentence like that", Linda looked warningly. This made Steve blush again.
Steve never met his grandmother, but Linda...well, he felt like she took on this role.
Which also meant he got trouble from her. He wasn't used to things like that, but it was nice...it even felt like family, somehow.
„So, let me see, what do we got here", she asked, while Steve started taking the groceries out. Steve didn't even really know what cookies he wanted to bake. It was hard to decide, since he didn't even know what you liked. Or maybe you had allergies? This was a bad idea. He shouldn't-"Stop your thinking, this never ends good."
Slightly offended he looked at Linda with narrowed eyebrows. "You're mean, you know that?", his words made Linda only chuckle.
Within an hour they had two whole trays full of cookies; enough for Steve, Linda and his new neighbour.
He was nervous.
"You can do it. You're a big boy, Steven", Linda patted his shoulder and slightly pushed him out of her apartment. "Now go, get your girl. She seems cute", with that Linda closed the door behind him. Quickly Steve turned around and looked at the closed door. He couldn't believe Linda haven't told him, she already met you.
With a quiet sigh he shook his head and went upstairs. A smile appeared on his face, which slowly turned into a grin.

Steve listed for a moment at your door. His hearing helped him hear your quiet steps, the quite, but hard breathing. Even your heartbeat, which started racing. He couldn't tell why.
After he knocked, there was just quietness. So he knocked again.
