19. "stargazing" Jake x Riki (Ni-ki)

Niki stepped past the school gates and towards the building, gripping his bag strap as he timidly looked around. He had recently moved to
Australia from Japan since his parents decided that not only would it be a nice change for Niki, but it would also be convenient since they had work here. They planned on staying here for good as well because they thought that Niki would have more opportunities.

He was overwhelmed by how many people there were already and was confused as to how there were 12 year old kids on the same campus as 18 year olds. He went to the officer and got everything sorted out, and went to his assigned locker while taking out the padlock out of his bag for it. He put his stuff away and just grabbed his laptop, notebook and his pretty much empty pencil case before closing and locking his locker.

Niki headed towards where his first class would be, towering almost over everyone since he was already 6'3. Though it was nice to see more people around his height so he didn't feel like he stuck out as much which is exactly what he wanted. He wasn't going to lie, he actually quite liked the uniform here, since he got a special senior jacket that said 'Class of 2022' on the back that only the year 12s would get.

Soon enough the bell had rung and he was now sitting at the back of the class, only a couple other people here so far. All of a sudden, a group of boys had burst through the door, the room immediately being filled with the sound of chatter and laughter. Though among the group, one in particular had caught his eye.

He seemed to be a couple inches shorter than him, but he still seemed to make himself appear taller by walking confidently. The teacher seemed annoyed by them because of the ruckus they had made and told them to go sit down. The raven-haired male that Niki was admiring sat beside him, though his back was turned to Niki since he was preoccupied in a conversation.

"Everyone, quiet down. We have a new student here with us today all the way from Japan! Please introduce yourself." The teacher announced, looking over at Niki and motioning for him to stand up. Niki felt a bit nervous when he noticed everyone's eyes were on him, some looking at him as if he was a whole meal (which he is) and some just purely curious about him.

"Uhm, hi. I'm Riki Nishimura, but you can call me Niki.." He said in a small and rather quiet voice despite him being so tall. Jake however, had his eyes on him, listening to him introduce himself intently. When that was done, Niki sat back down and let out a small breath he didn't even know he was holding.

Jake turned to Niki and held his hand out to him. "Hi Niki! My name is Jake, it's nice to meet you! I hope we can be friends in the future. Oh and if you need any notes, please let me know! I'll be happy to help." Jake said cheerfully, looking at him with a bright smile as Niki shyly took his hand and shook it, a small smile on his face as well.

"It's nice to meet you too, Jake." He nodded, looking into his eyes. The two of them froze a little, still holding each others hand when they should've let go moments ago. Niki immediately snapped out of it and took his hand away, mumbling a small sorry as he turned to face the front, extremely embarrassed.

Jake on the other hand, was still dazed, staring at Niki before he too snapped out of it when the teacher had called his name out for the roll.

Jake definitely wanted to get to know Niki, maybe even more than a friend.

It was now currently lunch and Niki was waiting in line at the canteen, sighing softly as he held his debit card in his hand. He was starving, to say the least because he had made the stupid decision to skip breakfast.

As he just looked around, occasionally sneaking a look at his phone to check the time that was inside the pocket of his jacket. As he was waiting, a group of boys had cut in front of the few people in front of him which made him scoff a little under his breath.

But he then saw Jake in the group as well. He didn't mean to stare but he did, and Jake soon caught his eyes as he made eye contact with him. Jake immediately erupted into a smile and waved at Niki before calling him over to cut in line with them. "Niki! Mate, get over here!" Jake called out, motioning him come over.

Niki didn't expect but just went to him anyway, a small smile on his face. "Hey.." Niki said softly, shoving his hands into his jacket pockets. "Hey! You know, I was wondering if you wanted to come with me and the boys after school to the beach. It's Friday and we could use that time to get to know each other." Jake suggested. Niki's eyes almost sparkled as he nodded his head.

"Yes, of course, I-I would love to." He didn't even mean to stutter, he was just excited. "Great!" Jake exclaimed, continuing to converse with Niki even though it was mostly him talking. Though Niki didn't mind it, he liked listening to Jake talk.

A couple hours had passed and the sun was now finally setting. Jake and Niki were still messing around with each other, their jackets discarded, their shirts unbuttoned to reveal the white singlet underneath with their sleeves rolled up as well as their pants. Their shoes and socks were with their jackets and bags as they played around in the water, laughing and smiling all throughout it.

"I think we should get out of the water now. It's getting dark and cold." Niki said to the other as he started to make his way out. "Yeah, I wouldn't want to get swept away by a current in the dark either." Jake said as he followed after Niki, making his way over to their things with the other.

There was a moment of silence between the two of them before Jake suddenly gasped. "We can do some stargazing tonight! The sky is clear so we'll be able to see everything clearly." Jake suggested with a bright grin, though it was hard to see because of the little light on the beach.

"Yeah, that would be nice." Niki nodded with a soft smile, sitting down on the sand and pulling Jake down with him before laying down. One hand was behind his head and his other arm was around Jake so the older could rest his head on his arm.

Hours had passed of them now just quietly chatting and pointing out the brightest stars, well.. it was mostly Jake. But Niki didn't mind, he loved listening to Jake talk. In fact, he wasn't even looking at the stars, he was looking at Jake because Jake was his star.

"Sorry, am I talking too much?" Jake apologised as he sheepishly looked over at Niki, his cheeks turning a little red when he saw that Niki seemed to have been staring at him for a while.

"No, not at all.." He breathed out, his eyes glancing down at Jake's lips before looking back into his eyes. Jake definitely noticed where Niki's eyes were looking, causing him to lick his lips a little.

Niki really couldn't hold back anymore, he needed to feel Jake's lips on his own. So he did what he thought was best and leaned in closer, softly pressing his lips onto Jake's.

Jake was quite taken by surprise and pulled away out of shock. Niki's heart dropped as his eyes widened in realisation.

"Shit, I'm so sorry Jake. I don't know what came over me.." Niki immediately apologised, sitting up and pulling his arm out from under Jake which caused him to sit up too.

"No, no it's okay.. it just caught me off guard." Jake said softly. Niki however, still felt bad about it and quite embarrassed. Jake noticed and so he cupped Niki's face and made him look back at him. "Really, it's okay Niki. I'm not mad at you. It's just because we only met today and I was just surprised. I really do like you, I do. But if we're going to have something between us I would prefer to do it slowly.." Jake explained, softly caressing Niki's cheek.

Niki of course nodded his head, he would never want to cross any boundaries. "Of course.. I don't ever want you to feel uncomfortable or bad about anything.." He replied, leaning into Jake's touch. Jake smiled softly as he stared back at him before pulling him into a tight hug, burying his face into the youngers shoulder.
