Ozymandias - Chapter One; I Met A Traveller From an Antique Land, Who Said

-----------------

'Ozymandias'

"What the fuck does 'Ozymandias' mean?" Bakugo snapped.

Chatnoob2 sighed, wings fluffing up slightly, "Ozymandias, was both a pharaoh, also known as Ramses the Great or Ozymandias, was the third of the 19th dynasty of Egypt and ruled for 66 years, and a poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley. My favourite poem, actually."

Simplii nodded, "The poem is about how no matter how great an empire, person, or thing, in the end, it will be forgotten. A rather depressing poem, honestly."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Chatnoob2 grumbled, "Let's get on with the multiverse.

35 years after 'The Fall' (??? POV)

"Why is there no POV?" Izuku asked.

"I don't know, if it was third person, it would say 'Third Person POV' not '??? POV'" Chatnoob2 mumbled.

"I believe the reason is because this person has no name, they are no longer the person who was given the name that they were at birth. They most likely go by a title now, multiple i'm guessing," Simplii mussed.

I looked upon the wasteland that stretched before me, nothing but rubble.

Is this what they meant? Is this what they meant? Did they mean to destroy everything? You know, now it no longer matters.

"Who is 'they'?" Aizawa asked, Chatnoob2 shook her head.

"I don't know."

Humanity, destroyed, life as we know it, changed beyond compare. Those of us lucky enough to to make it to the worlds 'Safe haven' are trapped in that prison of a city. Toxic and grey, lifeless beyond compare. I would rather die in a world of nothing, with freedom and colour than live in one without.

"What?" Hawks asked, horrified. How did this happen?

I stood up from where I sat on a rock and began to walk.

I don't know how long the world has been separated, deadly but free, safe but lifeless. How could one choose between? Either way, you truly don't live.

"What? You lifeless world is the only part that isn't living!" Shigaraki spat.

President Mic shook his head, "He means, in a world where you have to fight every day to survive, or a world where your guaranteed survival, but with the cost of freedom, neither are a way to live."

How did we get here?

Oh yes, Ozymandias.

The tyrant who only sought to destroy, but in the process became everything he wanted to fight against. He wished to create a palace where everyone was free to do as they pleased, to destroy all tyrants.

And in doing so, he created a prison of choice, where no one had say in what was done, and became a tyrant himself.

Funny how that is?

Ozymandias was given the name by those who were under his command, but before he had a name, Tomura Shigaraki.

Everyone turned to Tomura, as he slide down his chair.

He wanted to kill All Might, and free the world of 'Heros', hah, I wish he hadn't.

Now our world, the wasteland, has been freed, but the prison, not at all. Though, they are no longer called heroes, no longer loved. Because on paper, yes they are Pro Heroes, but their job, to keep the people in line, no one asked them for that.

They're pawns. Most call them Pros, the only real heroes are pushed away, sent to the wasteland, since they don't fit with the new 'Image' of the world.

Oh Ozymandias, why didn't you stop with this plan?

The world would have been better without it.

People would still have freedom.

And then, maybe, you would have been seen as a hero.

Maybe then-

"Mister?" I looked down to see a child pulling on my pant leg, "I... I have nowhere to go."

"Poor kid," Denki mumbled.

I looked the kid straight in the eyes, and raised an eyebrow.

Now, in the wasteland, there are hundreds of con-artists.

"Fuck," Bakugo muttered.

"Really?" I deadpanned.

The kid just looked up at me and nodded, "I don't. My mom got taken by the Pros while we lived in Sector, she was the leader of a group of Heroes, they didn't like that. They killed her..."

I flinched, now to anyone else, this would sound like a con. But I knew it wasn't. If it was, the kid would have called Sector by its more known name 'The Prison' and called the 'Pros' something less kind.

"Yeash," All-might muttered.

I nodded, "Follow me."

The kid nodded and we walked, and walked.

We soon came to a building of ruble, and I sat down on one of the chunks of cement, then patted next to me.

"Sit. I think, if you now have to live in the wasteland, I should tell you why it's like this."

The kid looked at me, then nodded sitting down and hugging his knees into his chest, placing his head on top.

"Once, the world was not the corrupted wasteland it is today," I began, "once, it had life and choice, and freedom."

The kid looked at me with wide eyes, "What happened?"

I sighed, "Ozymandias. He was named after Ramses The Great, and was considered a tyrant," I laughed, "It's almost funny that he set out to destroy tyrant's, only to be know as the greatest one to ever live."

"Yeah," Dabi answered, "hilarious."

"So," The child said, "he tried to make the world a better place, but failed?"

I shook my head, "No, he intended to destroy the world. To turn it back to the natural order of things. Chaos. in the end, he succeed, but humanity was more willing to give up their freedom for safety,"

"So in the end, he lost?"

"Yes. You're perceptive for your age, aren't you?" The kid blushed, and nodded. I hummed, "I'll call you Owl, it's not the greatest idea to use names here."

Owl nodded, "What do I call you?"

"Well, I go by many names, but you may have heard of me as 'The Traveller From an Antique Land', so you can call me Traveller, Owl."

He nodded, "It's nice to meet you Traveller."

Everyone was silent

"Let's move onto the next one!" Chatnoob2 exclaimed, parrot-coloured wings extending.

Simplii snorted, "Bird-brain."
