" 321, 322, 323..." The short brunette continued to walk down the dreary halfway with her keys dangling on her left hand. As she walked, she skimmed through the numbers on the doors.

"What was the number again?" she called to a taller brunette with similar features that made them look almost identical underneath the timid lighting.

With an irritated facade the brunette rolled her eyes struggling to carry her boxes. "326, the one on the left".

Turning to the left, the short brunette reached the door. "I knew that," she said, smiling and unlocking the door with the keys in her hand.

As she opened the door, the short brunette's smile grew more as she gleamed over the spacious room filled with sunlight.

"This is much bigger than what the pictures showed," she said, placing the keys on the kitchen counter that sat at the corner of the room. It spread only a couple of feet but it was the perfect size for a college dorm.

"Omg, I love van Gogh" she said as she made her way towards the already settled side of the room. It was completely decorated with bright yellow and white accents that brightened the room. Paintings had filled up the wall along the side of the already made bed. Sunflowers were placed on the bed side table with a note attached to it.

"That's not Van Gogh, mom" The tall brunette turned walking towards the painting. "That's Da Vinci" she said with a slight smile escaping her lips.

"Ugh, whatever" the mother said, crossing her arms flattening her pink blouse. "I already love your roommate."

The mother walked towards a box that the girl had placed on the floor at the entrance labeled Bedding. Opening it, she began to take out the belongings that were inside one by one. As her motherly instinct took shape she began making the bed with the white sheets she had reached for.

"Mom, I got it don't worry about it" the girl rushed to the empty bed that now only laid white sheets. "Well I sure hope you do, I just want one last motherly moment with you before you start adulthood."

The girl's smile faded; it never really hit her that she was legally an adult. To know that she was nineteen was scary for her already but also knowing she was the same age her mother was when she had her made her nauseous. She was raised having her as a mother but growing up she connected more to her in a sisterly way.

While on the flight from Arizona to New York nothing really processed in her head. She didn't think anything of it as they drove to the campus of NYU but suddenly in this moment everything hit her and she was frozen. It felt like life was moving but she was still stuck in the past. Thoughts formulated in her head like, what would she do without her mother, who was her best friend, right by her side?

After she finished making the bed she looked toward the small area in the corner. "Hopefully my roommate doesn't mind my midnight baking" She cringed, wondering how all her baking supplies would be able to fit. Baking was her solitude and the answer to every problem. She knew more than ever she would need that these next couple of months.

"Make her try one of your desserts, she'll never complain" the mother smiled, smoothing a hand over the top of her daughter's head. "I'm just a call away if you need anything, I'm always here for you, Sage.'

Her expression softened, she knew it would be hard at first but she'd soon adapt to her college life. Besides, New York has been her dream since she could remember. The bright city lights, the people, new beginnings, it was all here. But she also knew that every hope had danger right behind with drugs, money and power lingering through the streets. Secrets flooded the area and problems arose. Sage found a sort of comfort with all the chaos and the idea of there being two sides to everything.
