Finishing her homemade pastries she had made that morning and taking a sip of her coffee, Sage was thinking about all the things she had to do for the day. She took another bite of her pastry before placing her plate in the sink and cleaning her hands. On her way out, she quickly grabbed her coffee and looked at herself in the mirror.
Checking her phone, she realized she was right on time reading 3:20 P.M on the clock. That morning, she got a message from Raven telling her a sorority induction was happening later in the afternoon. "It was a must that she came" according to Raven . She was not in the mood to argue with her so she reluctantly got out of bed and got ready.
She continued walking trying to find the room number she was given. Building C, room 256.
Sage wasn't planning on joining the sorority; she hated those kinds of things. She preferred to have control of her life so that if she wanted to go out she wouldn't have to give a fuck about her "sisters" not approving of what she wore or the amount she drank. She hated the thought that she'd be walking into this area willingly but here she was. Some group of girls passed her giggling in their all pink dresses and fake bleached blonde hair. They linked arms with one another whispering about something. Sage took a sip of her caffeine wishing it had any form of alcohol in it at this moment.
Walking in the hallways, a loud sound could be heard in one of the rooms. Loud moans erupted from a room coming up. Sage felt repulsed, how could someone not have the decency to respect the people around them.
As Sage walked, the sounds only grew louder and louder. Sage now realized why the girls that passed her were laughing and whispering. A small giggle was heard and then it was back to the previous sounds. Sage turned her head into the room slightly before she heard it once again. She ran to the door knocking at it. "Hey, we can hear you from out here," she said before turning around and whispering under her breath, assholes.
The noise stopped and the door opened instantly to a tall blonde man with light green eyes and a lean figure leaning against the open door. He had no shirt on and seemed to have thrown on a pair of jeans because the button was still undone.
"Shit, were we that loud?" the blond man asked. Sage turned around, widening her eyes and putting her arms out, "Yes, that's why I knocked on your door."
The blond smiled shyly, rubbing the back of his neck. Before he could say anything else a short blonde girl pushed through the front door. Fixing her hair and straightening her dress she let out a shaky breath, "Fuck, I'm going to be late." She put on her high heels and before she left she finally looked up seeing Sage standing there sipping her coffee. "Sage! Oh my god! I'm so sorry you had to hear that."
Letting out a chuckle, Sage shook her head, "Happens to the best of us." The blond man still leaning on the open door looked from Sage to a flustered Cassie. She had a shirt in her hands and placed it on the blonde man's chest. "Put it on now Liam, we got to go," she said as he used one of his arms to grab the button up shirt. Rolling his eyes, he reluctantly grabbed it and started buttoning his shirt right in front of the two ladies, "Yes ma'am."
Cassie focused her attention back on Sage, "Ignore him, he thinks he's the shit." Cassie hits Liam's shoulder prompting him to hurry up and says, "Why is there never any urgency with you? Did you not hear me? We are going to be late! Head girl and the head boy can't be late."
He only chuckled and finished buttoning up his shirt. He quickly jogged up to the already walking girls and said, "Relax babe, I'm sure no one's going to start until you're there." Placing an arm around her neck, he gave her a kiss on the cheek. She sighed and looked towards Sage, "You're going to the Sorority Induction right? Did Raven invite you?" Sage only nodded; she could feel the vibe of this place right away and she already wasn't a fan.
The group began walking into the room. Cassie and Liam had to go their separate ways and Sage was left alone yet again the only difference is that she was so thankful for it this time. As she looked around, groups of friends were seated next to one another with girls dressed in bright pink and the boys in suits. Whatever type of induction this was, Sage was dreading it.
Sipping her coffee, she thought back to her past nights of peace and tranquility while locked away in her room. She was now realizing how much she missed the simple pleasures in life. However, she did wonder if one day she would ever be like one of these sorority girls. They seemed crazy, obnoxious, and fake but they were happy.
Sipping her last bit of coffee, a small touch on her shoulder made Sage turn around. "OMG! No way, you're here!" the girl shrieked. Sage tried to not roll her eyes, she faked a smile and replied as nicely as she could, "What a surprise. Evie, I didn't think you'd be here."
Evie was dressed in a bright pink dress with her blonde hair flowing down her back and obnoxious attitude peaking through. She fit right in. "Scoot, scoot," Evie said, motioning with her hands to move down and sat next to her. She sat straight with her bright pink nails folded in her lap and leg bouncing. Evie turned to look at Sage nudging her in the arm with her shoulder. "Don't you just love it here?" she whispered, "I could stay here forever." Sage only nodded, how could she tell her this is her worst nightmare come true.
The induction began with Cassie walking to the podium, clicking her high heels. She had a bright smile on her face and the crowd instantly went silent. "Welcome everyone, I'm so glad you all are here today..." Evie grabbed Sage's arm pinching at her skin. Wincing at the touch, Sage moved herself a little away but Evie never noticed. Her eyes were glued to Cassie. "Isn't she just breathtaking?" Sage ignored her only thinking about having a drink or at least being in a room by herself.
"...well I know you guys are all really excited so I'll get straight to the point," Cassie said with a smile that never wavered. "For this next part I'm going to need to invite the head boy of the fraternity, my handsome boyfriend Liam to the stage." Evie gasped as she turned her face to her boyfriend as he walked up the stage to the podium next to Cassie.
Evie covered her mouth with her hand in shock. Sage didn't want to ask why she was shocked but Sage caught her staring at her and she felt conflicted. "What?" Sage asked. Evie struggled to get the words out. "I painted with that guy," she said in a loud whisper. The girl next to her turned and made a face to us but eventually went back to listening to Cassie and Liam talk. "What?" Sage asked, confused on how it was a dirty secret. "What does painting together mean?"
Evie began breathing a bit hard, swallowing a lump in her throat, feeling as if she was going to throw up. "You know those flowers that were sent to me, they were from him."
Sage was shocked, she didn't think of Evie as someone who would hurt another person. She did know Cassie though and knew she would never accept this. "You know they've been dating since they were like twelve, right?"
Evie was shaking now she shook her head and looked towards Sage, "Sage I WOULD NEVER do that, I am not a homewrecker." Sage shook her head, "Don't tell me this, you need to tell Cassie."
"I know," Evie said as she bit on her bottom lip and sighed. She could no longer stay still. Sage watched the way she looked at Liam and Cassie. She felt disgusting, like it was all her fault for something she had no control in. Sage knew that feeling better than anyone. She could tell Evie was about to cry, "Hey," Sage said, trying to offer support. But Evie let out a breath, "I can't do this, I'm sorry," Evie got up and ran out of the room with the door shutting behind her. It was as if no one noticed, their eyes were glued to the couple on stage.
They gave one another a kiss and the audience all got up clapping and cheering. Sage took this chance to get up and leave the room, more excited than ever to go home.
