**Chapter 1: Unveiling Shadows**

Aditya's POV

Diary,

Today marks the commencement of Veer and Kavya's journey into a new chapter of their lives. I vow not to let them down, to shield them from the tumultuous currents that once swept me away. May their days be filled with boundless joy and enduring togetherness.

As a husband, I may have faltered, but as a brother, I promise to stand unwavering. In my darkest hours, Veer, my steadfast brother, stood by me, and today, I reciprocate that promise. Regardless of what unfolds, I will not let her memory linger, choosing instead to embrace happiness as I once did.

Adi, can you check on Veer and ensure he's ready? Mom requested, preoccupied with the final inspection of the decorations.

"Sure," I replied, ascending the stairs to his door.

"I hope the groom won't outpace the bride in preparation," I teased as I knocked. The door swiftly swung open.

"I truly wish I had the chance to tease you at your wedding. Anyways, you can enter only if you've informed Bhabhi about my wedding, and she's agreed to join," he warned.

"I spoke with her, and she said she'll try her best to attend," I lied, the truth being we hadn't exchanged words in four years.

"Fine, get inside," he said, as if asserting ownership. It was hard to believe he was getting married today, yet maturity eluded him.

Entering, I realized he'd only donned his attire. I set to work, assisting him without delay.

"Bhai, can I ask you something?" he inquired as I fashioned his wedding turban.

"Is Bhabhi coming or not?" he asked, a hint of hesitation in his voice.

"I don't know," I replied, steering my focus away from her thoughts.

"Where is she? Why isn't she back?" he pressed further, and honestly, I didn't have the answer.

"She's out for work and told me she'll be back soon," I lied again.

Having completed my task, I ensured he missed nothing. In my mind, I missed everything.

"Veer! Getting married isn't easy. It brings responsibilities. You must care not only for Kavya but also her family. Trust her unequivocally, and stand by her in every situation because challenges will arise, and you must face them together," I implored, attempting to impart the weight of his impending responsibilities.

"I understand, and I'll do my best," he replied.

Suddenly, Isha's scream echoed through the house. We rushed outside, only to be met with an unexpected scene.

She was here! Standing before me, as resplendent as ever. Yet, why now? After nearly four years, she appeared without a message or call. Where had she been during all this time?

In these four years, she never called us, never attempted to reach out. It seemed she'd forgotten us while forging new relationships.

"Finally, she's back. Thank you, Bhai, you're the best," Veer said, embracing me, hurrying downstairs to greet her as others did.

The entire family rejoiced at her return, but I wished I could share in their joy. That could have been possible if she had reciprocated my love. Now, I doubted the authenticity of her kind words, questioning if they, too, were as counterfeit as her actions.

Our eyes met, and her expression changed. She understood my thoughts, as she always had, and hastily shifted her gaze. I knew her next move before it unfolded.

Returning to my room, I closed the door, shielding my vulnerability from prying eyes. Why was she back now? What did she aim to prove? Why enter my life only to orchestrate this betrayal? Why marry me? Why me? These questions fractured my heart further. I loved her, yet she deceived me, toying with my emotions.

Recollections surfaced of the day I spotted her in a New York café, sharing laughter with another man. She found happiness without me. The indelible image couldn't be erased.

I closed my eyes, seeking calm, but instead, every moment of our past inundated my thoughts.

**FLASHBACK**

*Four Years Ago!*

On the streets of London, Aditya and Arohi occupied a bench.

"You've changed my life entirely since you came. I no longer curse my circumstances; instead, I find solace even in adversity—all because of you," I confessed.

Almost two years into our relationship, she gave my life profound meaning. She altered my perspective in ways I hadn't fathomed, and now, I envisioned an eternal future together.

"Being honest, I've never been in any other relationships. It all began with you, and I want it to conclude with you. No one has made me feel as safe and protected as you do, no one has cared for me like you," she admitted. Unable to contain myself, I hugged her and planted a tender kiss on her forehead.

"Arohi, I've always dreamt of a home where I can live peacefully with my family. I see that future in your eyes. I want us to be together always. Will you marry me?" I finally confessed, aware it might lack grandeur, but the purity of my feelings prevailed. I desired it to be special, but circumstances dictated otherwise. I harbored no regrets; the memory of proposing to her as my girlfriend held a romantic glow, her smile etched in my mind.
