"Hey honey." Emily spoke through the phone softly making me smile at her warm tone, "hi." I stated back shyly, I could hear a slight chuckle through the phone as the background of the hospital could be heard through the phone. "Is everything okay? If you aren't feeling okay I can come pick you up, just say the word my boss will understand."
I cut of her worrying with reassurance immediately, "I'm okay Emily, I haven't made any friends yet but I'm sure I will. It's only the first day remember?
I'm sure I could make friends soon, if not now."I heard a gentle sigh at my words, "just be careful okay? If you need me I will be one call away, the hospital isn't too far so you could hang out with Dr.Grey or Dr.Shepard." The woman spoke softly making me agree, "I'll let you know if it gets too bad, I promise." I stated with a serious tone as she went silent for a moment, "it'll be okay Emily, I promise."
"I know, just- just, make sure you eat your food and drink plenty of juice, be safe." Emily spoke through a breath making me laugh softly, she really cared about me, didn't she? I couldn't really tell, but she definitely cared about me more than my parents.
"I will, I promise." I stated softly, eventually we had to hang up since she was getting paged to the E.R so I just sighed while walking towards the cafeteria.
When it came to lunch, I didn't know what to expect. I hadn't really made any real friends so it would make it even harder to find a table, I went through my bag and got my packed lunch from Emily.
I watched the crowds of people sitting at tables in large groups making me slightly anxious, I looked around until I found an empty table making me immediately sit down on the edge.
I watched the stared anxiously around me, not even touching my lunch. The amount of stares made me want to sink down in a hole forever, it was definitely more than I could handle. I was eventually pulled out of my thoughts when The familiar blonde sat back down next to me, Jo.
I looked at her hesitantly as she just stared silently while the rest of the group sat around me, I was slightly confused by their actions but smiled once I realized I wasn't alone. I hated that feeling, once I realized they were eating around me. I picked shyly at my fingers until I felt a gentle bit warm hand stop the anxious habit, I looked up to find the eyes of Jo.
"Well, aren't you going to eat?" Jo had asked me nonchalantly with a monotone, I nodded immediately making her immediately remove the comforting hand from my own. I hadn't realized I frowned until Jo had put her hand back in the same position, making me somehow relax more than I've ever relaxed in my entire life. "Eat." She spoke in the same neutral tone, not exchanging eye contact.
I immediately opened my food as it had consisted of 'chick fil a' making me smile, it was the first food I ever tried consisting of a fruit salad, fries, and chicken nuggets. My face lit up at the choices before my eyes fell to the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, the large cookie making me want to drool in delight.
I reached for the cookie smiling while grabbing a large bite of it, savoring the god given taste.
How could something so good be invented like this? I felt the eyes of the girls, almost wanting to say something as I ate the cookie before anything but stayed silent about it.I didn't really pay attention to their conversation, my eyes fixated on the chicken nuggets and fries.
It was safe to say that the food was quickly gone within the few minutes, I pouted as I was still slightly hungry even after the fruit cup.
