I walk into the school doors, nothing knew, people gossiping, arguing. Staring at me...?

"Why are you guys looking at me?" I think to myself.

I make my way to class. I don't care if the bell didn't ring. As I set my bag down there's a few other students in the classroom. Two girls, a boy sitting by himself, and the boy I saw yesterday. His head is down, he seems to be asleep, I wouldn't blame him, school is tiring.

The bell rings and people start flooding in, once again no one dates to sit by me. The teacher comes in and the lesson starts, I don't care to listen because I'll become a drop out anyway.

I start to dose off.

"Miss Baker!!" My teacher yells.

I jolt awake as everyone around my giggles.

"Uh...yeah?" I ask.

"See me after class, since you obviously can't pay attention." He says looked down at his book, pushing his glasses back onto his face.

I roll my eyes at him. I fall asleep again, this time putting my head down. Next thing you know I hear a pen tapping on my desk.

"Miss Baker.....it's time to get up." My teacher says.

I raise my head and glare at him. I full sit up, crossing my arms.

"What did you want?" I ask.

"All year you've slept in my class, you're failing." He says putting his pen in his shirt pocket.

"And you think I didn't know that...?" I mumble to myself.

"You know...I can make you not fail." He says taking his glasses off.

"Woah! Woah! Slow down there buddy, I am 16 and you're what? 30 something?" I say standing up.

"Age is just a number between us." He starts walking towards me.

I back away grabbing a text book and smacking him in the head with it. I drop the book causing it to make a loud thud. I look back as I run to the door, he's holding his head. I open the door and run out into the busy hall way. Everyone watches as I run looking back. Next thing you know my teacher runs out the door but doesn't run after me.

"Get your ass back here baker!" He yells after me as everyone looks at us.

I run out of the school without looking back.

I make my way to the field from yesterday. My eyes water, I can feel my heart ripping in half. I let out the most gut wrenching scream. I sit down crying. My eyes burn.

"Hey? You okay?" I hear a boys voice from behind.

I look up and turn my body around to look at him.

"Oh...it's....just you." I say wiping my cheeks.

He walks towards me, pulling his jeans up then sitting next to me.

"I'm James, James Lenard." He holds out his hand.

"Matty, Matty baker. Nice to meet you James." I shake his hand, letting out a relived smile.

He awkwardly smiles back.

I look away tucking my knees into my chest, looking at the field beyond us. He looks where I'm looking too.

"Wanna be friends?" He asks.

My head snaps to him, my eyes light up a bit.

"Uh...oh. is...this a prank?" I ask cautiousness.

"No." He replays with a dry anwser.

"I don't believe you." I untuck my knees.

"That's okay, I'll make sure you believe me." He says turning his head to me, smiling softly.

I wake up in my bed, I have a splitting headache. I decided I won't go to school today. I don't want to face my teacher. I feel like I'm bolted to my bed. I have no motivation for anything anymore.

I get up anyway, I open my window seeing my mom's car gone.

"She went to work, Matty." I hear a voice behind me say.

It's my mom boyfriend. I hated him with every fiber in my body.

"I see that." I look at him.

"Hey, I just want you to know that I want to help you. I know how bad it sucks loosing your father, but I am not here to replace him." He claims crossing his arms, leaning against my door frame.

"Then what are you here for exactly?" I question.

"To help you and your mom. When I met her we both fell for each other, and I promised I would help you guys. You don't have to call me anytime but my name, if that's what you want, Matty." He says.

I look at him in disgust.

"I will never call you anything else but paul." I say.

He puts his arms up as if he was defeated.

"I'll leave you alone, but breakfast is on the table if you want it kiddo." He leaves.

"I might as well get dressed and go hang out somewhere other than here." I think to myself.

I get dressed in a regular black and white striped shirt, some basket ball shorts, and some beat up converses. Brushing my shoulder length hair I look at myself in the mirror.

"My eye bags are really dark..."

I put the brush down, leaving the room.

"I'll be back later Paul." I say as I leave the house.

He yells bye.

Bye my ass.
