Chapter 53: Tears of dispair

I had this chapter in my drafts for awhile but for some reason, I just didn't post it

" But you'll get killed too!" The sun summoner hesitated before admiring how Tamayo and even Yushrio smiled at her while struggling against the demons..

She immediately returned their smile back with tears in her eyes "I guess we're all ready then....Thank you min-na"  and she raised her arms above her head, closed her eyes, feeling the immense energy rushing through her... she let out one deep breath and that was when light exploded from her, pure and unwavering, flooding over the dark the forest, eliminating everything in its way....

That was the last thing the hashiras have heard before covering their eyes and ears due to the impact of the explosion..

Light bloomed in the whole area, searing the earth and air, instantly burning any demon and blinding any human that came its way.

A few seconds have passed until darkness of the night took over again.

Slowly, the hashiras and demon slayers present moved their arms away from their faces, squinting their eyes to adjust to the change in the atmosphere around them.

They noticed how the growling sound of demons had disappeared. Not only that but they just noticed that they were entirely free from the curse they were forced under, the one that didn't allow them to move properly. At this realization, each person looked at their neighbor with a warm smile on their face and with tears of joy forming in the corner of their eyes, knowing that the nightmare is over, that they did it, that they've won..that the death of their comrades all these years and their leader wasn't in vein...

For that moment, it was only him.. it was only him who was intensely gazing at the sight where the explosion came from and without hesitation, he found himself taking steps towards it.. faster and faster, capturing the others' attention drawing the attention of the others, who immediately followed him once their eyes met the place where the explosion came from as it just cleared out from all the dust that was previously covering it.

The joy instantly turned into worry as the hashiras made it into the site..

No one was there.

Not a single person.

A nichirin blade and Muzan's hat were all that was left.

" She must be somewhere around here" Tengen said as he could feel something terrible yet he still pushed it away.

" Everyone! come here and help us locate our sunlight hashira!" Shinobu yelled loud enough for the people who stood afar to hear.

Each person was looking everywhere in the area, even the kakushis and crows were taking part in the search, shouting y/n's name in hopes of hearing an " I am here".

They kept looking for hours without finding her, despite their optimism that they would find her nearby or that the explosion had just pushed her away.

" I found-!" Mitsuri was not even able to finish her sentence and most of them already turned to her direction and dashed towards where she was kneeling.

" What?? what did you find?" Sanemi questioned as the rag was consuming him " I can't see anything here!"

"Her-her" Misturi mumbled as the tears started to fall down cheeks "her hairpin..it's broken and it has- it has blood.." she added with a quavering voice, rendering everyone around her staggered.

" b-blood" Mitsuri's vision was slowly fading away as the tears were filling her eyes while she moved the rocks in which she found the hairpin stuck in, only to see more blood beneath them.

At this sight, the love hashira gulped and the rest just stood immobile with a complete shock as realization kicked in.. They understood now why she had smiled at them with tears in her eyes prior to the explosion, and they understood why her final words to Giyu were "I love you."

She sacrificed herself, for them..

At that moment, Misturi screamed in agony, her nails digging into the soil while she remembered every single moment she spent with her best friend...

" I am here, Don't worry about me, I somehow always make it".. she recalled these specific words, feeling even more saddened about how that statement was false..

Sanemi just stared down in disbelief, feeling like every nerve in his body was about to pop " Another person.." an image of her smile appeared in his head " another person I care about is gone.."

Rengoku, for the first time in his life, was not even able to fake a smile..hurt, pain and guilt was all he could feel, nothing more as he failed to keep his own promise.. protecting his lil sis from any harm..

Gyomei was shedding tears, Tengen was losing himself, Obanai knelt down beside Mitsuri and although he didn't show it, he was deeply hurt as well..Shinobu let out her anger, her pain that she's been keeping as y/n's death was the last straw..

Tanjiro, the boys and every single other person was crying in grief.. the whole scene turned from a victory that was supposed to be celebrated to misery..

In the midst of this, Giyu was hearing all the cries and screams in an echo, he was surrounded by darkness, he didn't even blink for a couple of minutes, he just stood there in a place where he could only see his memories with y/n flashing behind his eyes. He found himself falling on his knees, his whole body quivering while he stared at the ground as if he became paralyzed.... until he slowly lifted his chin up and let out a scream that was loud enough for anyone in the forest to hear.

A scream filled with suffering and misery.It's as if all of his hidden feelings have built up to this point.He just couldn't hide it any longer.

Rain droplets started to fall from the sky, landing on his cheeks and soon enough it turned into heavy rain.. Everyone present stood there, getting soaked by the rain as y/n's death still didn't sink into their minds.

" I am sorry, I am sorry, I failed to protect you." Giyu shrieked in a way that injured his own throat."please.....
