We reached the academy and entered. I shut the door behind us, as I turned around I saw a monkey walking towards us. "Welcome back Sir Reginald. Who's this?" asked the monkey. Now to start off I wasn't scared of him, but mainly curious and amazed. I wasn't sure how to answer his question, so I looked up towards Reginald. "Pogo, this young lady is our newest member of The Umbrella Academy, and will be known as Number Eight", Pogo smiled and welcomed me "Pogo please show her to the spare room, and send Grace there as well". Pogo nodded and gestured for me to follow.
As Pogo was leading me to my bedroom, I looked around taking in the house décor. It looked very old fashioned, but it suited the place. "Here we are." he said, snapping me out of my thoughts. He opened the door and gestured for me to enter. Entering the room I looked around, it was very nice yet simple. I walked over to the bed and ran my hand across the sheet. "Is it to your liking, Miss Eight?", Pogo asked. I turned around and gave him a small smile, "Yes, everything's wonderful." he smiled. "Ah Grace. I'd like to introduce you to our newest addition. Miss Eight." I looked towards the woman, she was very beautiful, and had a kind and loving expression. "Hello Eight, I'm so happy to meet you, and to welcome you to our family", she said. I smiled and thanked her, she then held out what looked to be a uniform towards me.
I took the clothes and thanked her, "Of course sweetie, and as soon as you finish getting dressed I'll go ahead and fix up your hair". She started organizing the room, while I was getting ready. I managed to put on everything, but struggled with my tie. "Here dear, let me help you." she said, after my tie she had me sit down on a chair so that she could fix my hair. "You have such beautiful red locks, and it's quite long, but beautiful nonetheless", I smiled at her compliment and chuckled, "Thank you, it was quite hard to manage when I was on my own, but I was too stubborn to chop it off, and still am". Grace chuckled, as she continued combing my hair, being gentle when detangling it.
"Alright sweetheart, you're all set", thanking her, I walked towards the mirror, and took in my new look. It felt odd, I then walked over to the bed and slowly sat down, Grace then walked over to me with a concerned look, "Are you alright?" . "I don't know to be honest, it feels strange being here, but not in a bad way. It's just...... I've been alone for so long, I'm not use to people being kind to me, let alone being taken care of." I sadly looked down at my hands. Grace gently placed her hand on my shoulder, "I'm sorry, you must've had a very hard time, but you're here now and that's what matters."
I placed my hand on hers and smiled, "Thank you, Miss Grace." she chuckled lightly, "You don't need to be so formal sweetie. You can call me Grace or Mom, either one is fine.'' I smiled and nodded. Someone cleared their throat catching both of our attention, Reginald stood in the doorway, "Good, you're all dressed. Come along now, it's time to introduce you to the other children.'' he said and started walking away. I stood up and quickly followed him, we headed to what looked to be a sitting room, it was fairly large. "You will wait here, until a call for you, understood?" he said in a stern voice, I simply nodded my head.
Third POV
Sir Reginald told Grace to call the children down. A moment later, all of them came down the stairs, looking a bit confused on what was going on, since this was supposedly their free time. "Children! I want you to listen up." all of them became silent, "We have a new member joining the academy. Number Eight." Reginald called out. Slowly, Eight walked into the room and made her way to stand next to Reginald, while looking down, and holding her hands behind her back. "Children, this is Number Eight. She is one of you, and will be staying with us. Did everyone understand what I just said?" "Yes Dad", said Luther. Reginald nodded and exited the room, after a moment of silence Allison walked up to Eight, while holding out her hand, "Hi, my name is Allison, aka Number 3". Eight looked up towards her and shook her hand, "It's a pleasure to meet you Allison". They smiled at each other, then one by one the kids started to introduce themselves. Soon Eight knew everyone's names and numbers, except for one, who was watching from a corner.
"So Eight, do you have a real name?" asked Allison. "Um, unfortunately no, I don't." Eight said a bit sadly. She felt a hand on her shoulder, "Well, that's okay, why don't we ask mom to give you a name? She'll be glad to do it!" said Ben excitedly. Eight smiled at his suggestion and soon all of them went to go find Grace. They found her cleaning up the kitchen, "Hi Mom!" said Diego. Grace smiled at all of us, "Hello children, do you need something?". "We were hoping you could maybe give Eight a name?" asked Vanya. "Well of course! Now lets see.'' she said while walking around Eight, she then gently held her face and examined it, seeing every detail of the girls face. "I think the name Amelia would suit you beautifully" she said while dropping her hands to her side.
"I like it! It really goes with you. Also you have a pretty cool British accent", said Klaus excitedly. The rest of them nodded in agreement. "Thank you all, for helping me feel more welcome. It's a nice change." everyone smiled at her. "Of course Amelia, after all you are kinda part of the family now." said Diego, which made her smile. "Alright children, it's time to get ready for dinner. Go on to your room until the bell is rung." they all headed up the stairs, but Amelia leaned closer to Vanya, "Hey Vanya, I wanted to ask, who is the boy that's been quiet?" Vanya looked up ahead and noticed who she was talking about. "Oh that's Five, we just call him Five since he prefers it that way. And he can be a bit quiet at times, but don't worry about it, I'm sure he'll talk to you sooner or later." she said smiling at Amelia. She nodded and returned the smile.
*After Dinner*
Amelia's POV
I was staring out the open window, and looked up at the night sky. I took a deep breath while closing my eyes. Letting it out, I reopened my eyes thinking how glad I am to finally be off the streets. Three years of being alone and surviving on nothing but scraps. But if I'm being honest, being on the streets really changes you and sometimes not in a good way. I was so terrified when I was left alone, nobody to help or guide me. I needed to grow a tough shell to protect myself, I had very little help from the homeless, who were kind enough to help me a bit. I believe that's what helped me have a kind heart, well at times.
I learned not to be pushed around, it was even more complicated since I had no guidance on how to use my powers properly. I needed to learn on my own, but with time I slowly learned how to use my powers. Though there are moments where I lose focus or control. Perhaps Reginald can help me control them better, but I can tell that he won't make it easy. I sensed that he has a very strict demeanor. Hopefully all goes well, and I get the feeling that Five doesn't seem to like me very much. I'll try talking to him tomorrow. I jumped off the window and closed it, and got into bed, and slowly drifted to sleep.
