"How's school going? Are you getting good grades?" Chichi asked over the phone. Gohan smirked at the greeting. She was always so concerned about his grades.

"My grades are perfect Mom. Don't worry so much," Gohan replied. He stretched back on his bed and tucked one arm under his head as he stared at this bedroom's ceiling. He wasn't about to mention that he decided to call her before doing tonight's homework. If he did, he knew she would rush to hang up on him immediately. Ever since Videl had bought him a cell phone a week ago, he'd been calling home every day.

"Oh, that's good to hear. Listen, I'm in the middle of cooking dinner, so I can't talk right now...make sure you brush your teeth before bed and say hello to Videl for me."

In the background, Goten shouted," HI, GOHAN! I MISS YOU"

"I miss you too," Gohan whispered one second after Chichi hung up the phone. Their conversations never lasted more than a few seconds, and Chichi always refused to let Goten talk on the phone. It was like she didn't want to talk to Gohan at all.

Gohan got up and walked over to his desk. He connected the phone to its charger, then took out a sheet of blank paper from the drawer. Four months had passed since he married Videl. He hadn't called home once since he left.

"Mom must be mad at me," Gohan sighed. "I should've bought a cell phone sooner." He actually planned on calling his family after he got settled in, but Videl's family didn't appear to have a phone. It wasn't until much later that Videl explained what a landline and cell phone was to him.

"I wish Mom would at least let me talk to Goten for a few minutes. We've never been apart this long before. Poor kid. He must think I've forgotten him now that I'm married." Gohan uncapped his pen and set to work writing a letter to his little brother. He needed Goten to know that he missed him and thought of him every day.

" Hey, buddy. I'm sorry I haven't had time to call or visit. The high school here is one of the best in the country, and the homework is no joke. Sometimes there's so much homework that I don't get the chance to sleep." This was a lie, of course. Gohan had no trouble finishing his homework within two or three hours. He couldn't tell his mother or brother that he'd taken on a part-time job at the convenience store down the street after school. He didn't actually need the money since his wife gave him a very generous allowance every week, but he felt he needed to earn something to send back home. Chichi was good at saving money, and whatever money Goku left them before he died would soon run out. "The cafeteria is huge! The food is almost as good as the buffets Bulma hosts at her birthday parties. You'd love it, Goten. Study hard and maybe you can go to high school here too."

"I can go to high school with you?" He could almost hear Goten squeal excitedly. He knew his mom would appreciate him adding that last bit. Goten was nowhere near as smart as Gohan at that age. He was a gentle kid more interested in playing than studying. Whether or not he'd make it to high school was up to him.

Gohan continued writing his letter and went into great detail about all the fun things he's seen in the city, and all the new friends he's made at school. He'd even agreed to join the school's baseball team, only because they begged him after watching him play for the first time during P.E class. He vaguely mentioned Mr. Satan and Mr. Satan's hot wife, saying "They're really nice people."

Hot Wife was extremely nice to Gohan, which often put Videl in a cranky mood anytime they interacted with each other, so Gohan went out of his way every day to avoid being alone in the same room with the older woman. And Mr. Satan? Well, he wasn't exactly nice, but he hadn't tried deserting Gohan on a far away island again like some unwanted puppy. Maybe he was warming up to Gohan?

"Videl would like to meet you and Mom someday. I miss you so much, little brother. Be good and take care of mom for me." Gohan finished the letter and sealed it in an envelope. He stood up from his chair and hurriedly went downstairs to mail the letter.

"Hi, Gohan," Videl greeted from the bottom of the stairs. She was dressed in pink pajamas and her hair was wet from her evening shower. Over the past four months, she and Gohan had started to become friends, and she had even insisted on Gohan moving into the bedroom upstairs across from hers. They had not slept together or acted like a true husband and wife, but that was fine with Gohan. He was far too busy with his after school job, baseball, and homework to worry about romance. Videl hadn't tried to progress their relationship either.

"Hi, Videl. I was just going outside to mail a letter to my family."

Videl arched her brow." Why not just send them an email? It'd be quicker. Or better yet, why not just video chat with them?"

Email? Video chat? Gohan blinked his eyes blankly at her and smiled." Oh, um....I guess you're right."

Videl mentally kicked herself. She forgot she was the one who had to explain what a cell phone was to him.

" Never mind. Letters are more personal. It's sweeter to write a letter than send a two second email." She stepped around her husband and started to go up the stairs.

"Videl, wait."

Videl stopped, looking curiously over her shoulder. A faint smile settled across her lips as Gohan nervously fidgeted with his letter.

"I was wondering," he began, his voice uncontrollably shaky." If maybe you'd like to go to see a movie this Saturday." He paused, then quickly added." W-with me?"

A warm feeling filled Videl's body, but she didn't want Gohan to see how happy he'd just made her. She turned around, shrugged her shoulders like it wasn't a big deal, and said," Sure."

Oh, man, what am I doing? Why did I just ask her out? I can't believe she said yes, but I'm glad she didn't say no. It was like this every time he was around Videl lately. She made him nervous...but in a good way. He wanted to run away from her...but be around her all the time. It was confusing.

I should run up to her room right now and cancel the date. I'm too busy to worry about dates or getting to know my wife better. Our marriage is destined to fail. She wants to piss off her Dad and I just want to get into a good college, that's it. No romance involved.

After mailing his letter, Gohan paused in front of Videl's bedroom door, intent on cancelling his date.

He couldn't bring himself to cancel it, however.

He couldn't even raise his fist to tap on her door.
