PAYSEN POV:

The morning after our... activities, I lay next to Davis and wait for him to wake up. Last night, I got him off the bed and changed the sheets as quickly as I could without waking him.

As I lay next to him, I gaze at him. I take in his ginger hair, tanned skin, and pouty lips, curved into a faint smile in his sleep. He's beautiful. But he's a human... But he trusts me. He proved that to me last night, and I can't doubt him after that.

Lost in thought, I almost don't notice Davis wake up and flutter his eyelashes open. I see his eyes widen as he looks around, trying to remember where he is. His gaze falls on me and I expect him to be disgusted, say how the wasn't thinking that night, how he hates me. He brings his head closer to mine, about to yell at me, and-

He kisses me. Light, open-mouthed, almost fragile. I feel myself melt into his kiss and I wrap my arms around him, trying to become even closer to him.

Last night was... amazing, but it didn't come close to this. His kiss isn't sexual, frenzied lust. It has emotion, and that emotion seems like...

Love.

He loves me.

And I'm pretty sure I love him.

he opens his eyes and pulls away, but I grab him tighter, trying to become on with him. I feel him take a breath before he begins to talk.

"I usually... wake up with nightmares," he says. I look up at him. "You know, in cold sweats, seeing my parents... die all over again."

"I do know," I mumble into Davis's chest. "Sometimes happens with me, too."

"But it happens to me every night, Paysen. This is the first morning in 6 years that I've woken up like a normal person." He takes a long, deep breath. "And I think it's because of you."

I look up at him, and gently grab his head so we're at eye level with each other.

"Davis." I say, focusing on his amber eyes. "I'm here for you. Always." I see his eyes fill up with tears, but he blinks them away before I say something else.

"And Davis, I... I love you."

"You barely know me."

"I'm a... vampire. I can tell when I've found someone. I've never felt this before, and we only feel this for one person. I've been alive for 113 years. This is the first time I've been... in love."

Davis stares back at me. I expect him to say that I was taking this too far, that he's just a one-night stand with a death wish, but instead he smiles.

"Paysen?"

"Yes?"

"I love you too."

I feel a tear run down my cheek, but Davis wipes it away with his thumb. He rolls me onto my back and lays another gentle kiss on me, straddling my hips with his legs.

I want to stay here forever, but he pulls away.

"We should probably... get ready. Breakfast started 10 minutes ago."

"Shit." I curse. "I've got clothes that will fit you."

Davis goes to take a shower, and he comes out with a towel around his waist. he blushes, beginning to say something, but I just smirk.

"Don't act like I haven't seen all of that before." he blushes even harder, flustered and looking away. "Clothes are right there on the table."

I go to shower and put on clothes, and Davis is waiting for me by the door.

"You know I don't go to meals," I say.

"I wanted to walk you to the stairs, at least," he mumbles, still flustered.

Oh. Oh.

He's not just going to leave me here? He wants to... be with me.

"Well? Shall we?" he asks.

"We shall."
