Avery rubbed her eyes, trying to keep herself awake. It's been two weeks since agreeing to help Alexander Esccara..and she has hardly gotten sleep since then. He's practically disappeared for the last week, not even bothering to let Avery know where he was going.

She quickly made her way throw her precinct, looking for her brother. That's when she noticed Tyler. He stood at someone's desk, staring down at some papers. Her eyes scanned around him. Right across from Tyler was the jail cell, where a boy sat. He looked to be around 19.

As much as Avery didn't want to be anywhere near Tyler...she had a gut feeling about that kid, "Tyler. Who's the kid?" she asks, snatching the papers out of his hand.

"We believe he's an Escarra."

Avery's body froze.

"A Esccara?" she asked.

Tyler walked closer to the cell, looking at the kid, "he has that tattoo..." he trails off.

"What's he in for?" Avery questions, looking at the lead detective on the case.

The lead detective, Matthew Barnes, looks up at Avery with a grin, "saw him walking the streets, then saw the tat. I saw him litter, so I arrested him for—"

Avery scoffed, "you're telling me you arrested that kid for no reason? You know that won't stand up in court. Especially since you have no clue if he really is an Escarra or related to them, Matthew." she cut him off.

"This isn't your case, Montgomery. Fuck off." Barnes snapped.

Avery watched from the corner of her eye. The kids head instantly snapped up when he heard the last name "Montgomery"

"Im not going to let you throw some kid into jail for maybe being an Esccara. That's bullshit. I'm calling my brother." Avery snapped,

"Grayson can't help you with this, Montgomery. He's just as useless are you are." Barnes yells as Avery was walking away.

Her body spun around, staring the man down, "Grayson isn't my only brother."

Tension filled the room. A man with bright green eyes, and tan skin walked through the room. Stopping at Avery, "this better be worth my time, Av." he muttered, watching her get up from her seat.

"I hope it is." she whispered to herself, leading him to a room, where the boy sat...waiting for his lawyer. She opened the door, letting her brother walk through.

Avery's brother took one look at the young man and scoffed, "Bring Barnes in here." he demanded.

She quickly left the room, and got Matthew.

The two stared at one another, trying to make the other break eye contact. But neither did, "so you're the other brother." he stated, crossing his arms.

"Sure am." Maverick smirks, "now, let's get this over with," he says standing up, "you, Matthew Barnes has no right to convict this young man, who hasn't committed any crimes. So, unless you want me to bring you to court, I suggest you let him go right this instant." Maverick demanded.

Even Avery was surprised by his tone.

Matthew dropped his head but look back up at the kid, "I will find you one way or another." He pauses, looking over at Avery, "and you...you're fucking dead." he snapped, storming out of the room.

Silence took over the room. The kid refused to even look over at Avery. So, she pulled out her phone, located in her left pocket and slammed it on the table, "Call Alexander. Now." she ordered.

Maverick watched his sister closely. He shook his head in disappointment, "Av. What have you gotten yourself into?" he sighed.

"Nothing, Mav. Just let me deal with it." she answers, "come on, let's go." she ordered the kid, pointing to the door. He slowly got up from his chair, following the brunette outside and into her car.

"What do you want me to say?" he mumbled.

"That he better get his ass to my apartment." she says almost raising her voice, but instead kept her calm. The rest of the ride was silent. Avery kept trying to figure out which brother he was. Jackson was the youngest, who is currently kidnapped. So that only leaves Ethan or Jameson. She sighed, looking at the young man, "Jameson. Isn't it?"

"Yes."

"You're lucky you landed in my precinct or else they would've found something on you..and thrown you into prison." she states.

Jameson slowly looked over at her, "Alex said you only have one brother."

"Your brother doesn't know everything." she laughs, parking the car and getting out.

He followed her into the building, "you aren't what I imagined either."

Avery stopped at her apartments door, turning to look at him, "what did you imagine?"

He try's to keep the smirk away, the same smirk Alexander always had, "some whore that my brother was fucking, so you would help him." he bluntly said, looking down at his feet,

"Good thing I don't plan on ever fucking your brother." she mumbled, opening up the door to her apartment.

Her body froze. Everything she's ever learned left her mind. Inside stood the one person she never wanted to see again unless he was dead. Kade Adams. Avery tried to pull her gun out but he was too fast. He grabbed Jameson, throwing him to the ground, and then put a knife to Avery's throat. Her back was against his chest.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." a familiar voice says, stepping into the apartment, since the door was still open.

Avery eyes widened. It was Maverick, pointing a gun at Kade, with Alexander standing next to him.

Kade began to panic. Truth be told, he wasn't prepared for so many people to be defending her life like this.

"Go ahead. Shoot me, but she dies." he yells, putting more pressure onto her neck with the knife, "let me leave...and I won't kill her." he demands.

"You can't just break into here and expect not to be caught. You are not—" Alexander try's to say.

"I'll kill her!" Kade snaps, putting even more pressure onto her neck. Blood began to flow down her neck.

"Okay, okay!" Maverick yells. "Walk towards the door, and leave...we won't shoot."

"Bullshit." Kade laughs, moving towards the door, but he keeps ahold of Avery until he gets to the door way. Both Maverick and Alexander moved out of the way, waiting for him to let go of her.

His grip lightened, but before anyone could do anything he pulled out his gun, shooting Jameson, who was still on the floor after hitting his head. Then he shot again...hitting Avery in the leg.

He was gone.

Kade ran down the hallway and outside.

Leaving two people wounded.

"Shit." Alexander groaned rushing over to his brother, but he couldn't help but look over at Avery, who cried in pain.

Jameson was unconscious due to his fall, so he never felt a single thing.
