(Hyeju GP)
Hyejoo stretched her limbs, rubbing her shoulders as she stared at the unfinished work on her computer. It was incredibly noisy outside—loud shouting and a bit of clattering here and there. She didn't know how she managed to ignore it for almost an hour. She sighed, standing up from her swivel chair and finally investigating the scene. She needed a break, after all.
Just what the hell were people up to at 2 PM where the scorching afternoon sun can possibly blind you? She thought to herself, peeking through the blinds and squinting hard to see what was going.
Oh.
There was a truck parked on the side of the streets and a bunch of different boxes being hauled off on the driveway. Oh, also a troop of sweaty workers picking it up and taking it inside the house. Hyejoo's face contorted in disdain, not really a fan of seeing the male species in any shape or form.
She remembered her Jiwoo unnie telling her that somebody was finally moving in at the huge house next to hers; even reminding her to start practicing being nice and welcoming if she didn't want to scare them off. Hyejoo huffed, rolling her eyes. She couldn't care less, she didn't even go outside that much anyways.
Decidedly, she went back to her grueling work, wanting to finish it before the sun sets. She sat down again, grumbling a mummed complaint as she started typing again. She didn't really want to get blasted by her boss for the nth time that week. It sucked. She wanted to quit her awfully boring job but the bills didn't pay itself. Although, she knew that Jiwoo was kind enough to not let her starve but other than that, that woman would scold her for being unemployed.
She wished a woman who was filthy, filthy rich would take interest in her and maybe, just maybe she could type a resignation letter and flip off her boss on the way out. Of course, it seemed like wishful thinking—a miracle, even. Hyejoo sighed through her nose, running her fingers through her hair in frustration.
After a few minutes, her phone started to ring and vibrate against the wooden table loudly. She clicked her tongue, ignoring the caller and turning her phone facedown. She needed to focus. Although, her phone didn't stop from popping up with a bunch of notifications from her messaging app; the cheery sound annoying her to her very core.
"Fucking seriously." She groaned, letting her head fall back in frustration as it vibrated again. She picked it up, pursing her lips when she saw Jiwoo's bright smile on the screen. She tapped the accept button, placing the phone right by her ear. "Hello."
"Hi!" Jiwoo's chirpy voice greeted from the other line. Hyejoo winced, prying the phone centimeters away from her ears. "Hyejoo! Hello! Are you there?"
"Unnie." Hyejoo said, her voice monotonous. "Make it quick."
"Get down here!" Jiwoo replied, a hearty giggle following. "Let's meet our new neighbor."
"I have work to do." Hyejoo sighed in exasperation, propping her elbows on the armrest before pressing her cheeks on the back of her hand. "Maybe next time when I'm not that busy." She lied. Well, half lied. She was going to run across them sooner or later anyways. She didn't really find the need to go there personally and pretend to be all buddy-buddy.
"I'm at your front door," Jiwoo hummed. Hyejoo then heard Jiwoo's continuous knocks through the phone. As if she didn't know the woman was already at her front door before she could even answer. It was such a typical thing for Jiwoo to do—showing up unannounced, that is. Hyejoo had gotten used to it. "I'll be very, very upset if you don't open it within a minute."
