encore : erase mematt held the paper in his hands as his eyes read over the list of songs ari was going to perform. he frowned at the song titles, finding them rather strange. he didn't really know what to expect with ari's music or what ari classified her genre as, but matt never thought for a second to ever listen to ari's songs since she became famous.
"have you guys even listened to any of her songs?" matt asked curiously, almost accusingly.
elmer looked up from where he was driving to make eyes contact with matt in the rearview mirror. "actually, yes."
"ive been listening to them twice a day so i can remember the words," chris admitted from where he was sat next to matt in the backseat of the car. matt looked over at him, raising his eyebrow when chris gave him a wink.
"same. except the second to last one," nick announced from the passenger seat, turning his body over the console to look at matt, "i haven't heard if i could fly."
"must be new and special," nate wiggled his eyebrows, smirking as he watched matt's expression.
matt looked up at nate and scrunched his face up annoyed, falling back in his seat and slouching his shoulders. he grabbed the set list again and began looking over the titles, soon wondering if any of the songs happen to be about him. matt assumed by the title of the first one that it was about their break up, unless ari had another moment when she was crying over someone.
the fourth song title seemed like it could also be about him, given him and ari had just broken up when she left. but he also wouldnt be surprised if the song was about their friend group and how much she missed them. it seemed like a very ari thing to do to write songs from personal experiences and dedicate them to her friends and family.
there were some song titles he didnt quite understand. that kind of made him grimace. like maroon and fuckmarrykill. matt had no idea what ari was thinking when she had named those titles. they sounded a bit ridiculous to him. did she like maroon? did ari meet a guy?
then there was doomsday, which if matt remembered what it was, then he was even more surprised ari had dedicated a song to it. matt was officially getting curious to know what ari had done these past years to come up with that.
he pulled his head up from reading the set list when he noticed elmer pulling into the parking lot. matt looked around outside and saw the mgm, and he noticed a few fans lingering around with their phones phones out and signs decorated for ari. matt still found it a bit ridiculous how much these people followed ari around and obsessing over photographing her. matt wasn't necessarily used to seeing ari the star light, and he wasn't very fond at having her being followed either.
"follow me," a guard from the gate had greeted. he opened the back door of the car and motioned for the five of them to follow his lead up to the arena. the five boys stayed close as they walked up to the back door, he guided them all inside and let them hang around the open area of the backstage.
"so are we playing marco polo or what?" chris asked when they were left alone in the silence. as if on cue, ari was walking around the corner with a smile on her face the minute she caught sight of her friends. she looked as if she had been stressed before walking in with the way the creases on her forehead had eased up and the tension in her shoulders had relaxed.
