Once we had reached the dorm with my name above it, I put my hand over the senser next to the door and heard the familiar *click* signaling that it had opened. I dropped the bag I was holding next to the desk and sat down on the bed. It feels nice to be back, the dorms have always been comfy. I was going to lie down when a thick accent interrupted the silence "Hey, uhhh... wasn't this Gabes room?"
I looked at Mcree for a second before looking around the room. Sure enough, it was Gabes room. The furniture was still in the same place as his was, it was the same type of furniture as well. Even the view from the window was the same. Why didn't they just put me in my old room? What was the point in putting me in Gabes room when I already had a room I stayed in before? It's probably just a weird coincidence, I mean the rooms were probably picked by random.
I stood up, "I'm going to go have a look around, see what's changed and what hasn't. You two wanna come with?" I look at Mcree who nods in response. I look at Zenyatta who shakes his head "I think I'm going to stay here for a bit". I nod and exit the room being followed by Mcree.
I noticed that Ashe had left the hallway, seems she had something to do. I felt a hand on my shoulder, I looked over at Jesse. "You miss those two don't ya?" He asked. "Yeah, even if I didn't trust Moira for years and git angry at basically anything that Gabe did sometimes. Overwatch just isn't going to be the same without them." I could see his face soften after I spoke. "I know it won't be darlin' I'm worried about that as well. But I know for sure that Gabe wouldn't want us to let that have a bad time in overwatch, he'd want us to make new memories with everyone. So that's not going to stop us, right?" God, Mcree is really good with words. I smile at him "Right." He takes his hand off my shoulder and we carried on walking down the hallway.
Before we got too far there was a blue flash in front of us that quickly got replaced with a person. A person that I recognize all too well. "Good mornin' Lena!" Mcree said. She looks slightly different to how she did before, short brown hair, brown jacket and neon orange and yellow leggings. And of course, the glowing blue machine that she always wears around her chest. It's different to the mostly blue uniform she wore before. "Good morning Mcree!" she replied in a British accent. "How have you two been? It's been a long time since any of us spoke, so long that you two have changed a lot. Especially you Genji" "I'm surprised you even recognized me; I don't look anything like how I did in Blackwatch." Lena just started laughing. "Well yeah, but it's not like many people have a bright green dragon following them around, is it?" she said between laughs. I look down at Soba who was trying to get Lena's attention by rubbing up against her leg. 'Just like a cat' I think.
Lena and Mcree started chatting about what they did through the years overwatch wasn't a thing. I wasn't paying attention to anything they were saying, I looked around not seeing anyone else around. I looked back at the other two, they were in a deep conversation. 'It would be so easy to just leave, both of them are oblivious as fuck. Eh fuck it. I'm just going to leave.' I slowly start walking away from the two.
I got round the corner of the hallway and neither of them noticed I had walked down the hallway. I decided to just walk around and see what had changed. Jack isn't the strike commander anymore, so things have definitely changed. Especially since its now Winston who's in charge now. 'Where do I go first?' I looked around where I was, just to see what is close by. 'I'll go to the training room first, no one's going to be there we are all just arriving'
I turn to go to the training room and accidently bumped into someone. "Oh, sorry. Didn't realize you were going to start walking, omnics are hard to decipher" Thats not a voice or accent I recognize. I look at the guy who was speaking to me, he had blue armor with an orange scarf like thing around his neck. He had fluffy hair that was shaved at the side, a well-kept beard and a transparent blue mechanism over one of his eyes. "I'm not an omnic." I said before he had a chance to say anything else, "Although I can see why you would think that." He started to rub the back of his neck, "Oh, my apologies! You must just be wearing armor then" "Sort of" I reply while shrugging my shoulders. He held his hand out towards me, "My names Baptiste, what's your name?" "Genji. Genji Shimada" I said while shaking his hand. "So, what did you mean when you said your 'sort of wearing armor'?" I didn't know how to respond to that, at least not in a way that weirds him out and makes him question everything. "Some of it is. At least what you see is. Because of things that I will not be explaining, I am a cyborg. 80% of my body is made out of metal." His face dropped into that of shock and pity. 'Ugghhh. Why do people feel the need to pity me because of my past?'
Hospital rooms are shit. Even ones that are in the building of the biggest hero organization in the world. The door opened and someone walked in. I looked at them and noticed it wasn't the doctor 'that's looking after me'. It's a darker skinned male who is wearing a black beanie and hoodie. He waved at me before pulling a chair next to my bed and sat down. 'He isn't going to leave anytime soon is he. Fucking great.' I move to sit in a position that is easier to talk to him in. "You're Genji, right?" I nodded in response. "I'm Gabrial Reyes. Commander of Blackwatch, it's nice to meet you." He holds his hand out for me to shake, I just look at his hand then back at his face. He slowly puts his hand back on his lap after realizing I wasn't going to shake his hand.
"Right. So, before we do anything here, I believe that I might have something of yours." He started to get something out of his pocket. 'I honestly don't care.' I thought while looking in a different direction. That was until I felt the familiar feeling of scales rubbing against my face. I quickly turn to look at what it was. All I saw in front of my eyes was the green glow of my dragon, Soba. I grabbed her gently and moved her to my lap so that I can properly pet her. It's been so long since I've seen her, I have been stuck in this hospital room for just over a year without her. "Ahhh, so it is yours. I thought so" "She is not an it." I snap. His expression changed to that of shock and was quickly replaced by a slight smile. "I'm sorry, so she is yours. Me and Ana have been taking care of her while you've been here. She just seemed to like sleeping in either my hood or on Ana's desk." He said a couple more things, but I wasn't paying attention. I was only paying attention to Soba.
"Anyway, there is a reason I came here." I turned my head an inch in his direction to indicate that I was listening. "Commander Morrison, one of the top dogs at overwatch. Higher ranked then I am the little bitch. Has decided that you will be joining Blackwatch with me and my teammate. It is only us two, so he probably just wants us to have more soldiers for some reason. And I have been made aware that you refuse to tell Dr. Ziegler about what has happened to you despite the number of times she has asked. As your soon to be commander it is my duty to make sure that the doctor gets all of the information she needs." I turn my head back to soba. "Now I understand why you might not want anyone to know but Dr. Ziegler needs to know for medical records or something." I don't even look at him. I just stopped petting soba. I guess he could tell I wasn't happy about talking to him about it, maybe even the fact I'm not happy about talking to him in general. "Listen. I promise you no one else would know about it. Even if you don't tell me Dr. Ziegler needs to know. It would help her a lo-" "My brother." "What?"
"My brother killed me. I was leaving the clans building to go to the arcade like I did most days. He never seemed to care before. He would normally just let me go. This day must have been different somehow because he killed me before I was able to leave. I didn't have my sword on me at the time, so it was even easier for him to kill me. He was the only person who I fucking trusted in the clan." I didn't look at him the whole time while I was talking, but when I did look in his direction all I saw was pity on his face. "I am so sorry that happened to you, being betrayed must feel like shit. I promise you; this information will stay in between you and me. I won't even tell Ja- Commander Morrison. Even though I know he is definitely going to ask." He stood up from his seat and moved towards the door. "Thank you for giving me Soba back." He turned around to look at me, "Your welcome."
"Do not look at me with pity. That is the last thing I want; I have come to terms with everything that has happened to me in the past. I don't want people to treat me different just because of the fact my body is different to most people." He stared blankly at me for a few seconds before he smiled at me. "Don't worry man, I won't treat you any different if that's what you want."
I looked down the hallway and see no one else is here. "I'm sorry but I would like to have a look around, see what has changed and what has not. So please excuse me-" "You were in overwatch before?" Baptiste questions, I nod as a response. "I was. Not in overwatch directly but I still stayed in the building the whole time." I went to walk away while he looked like he was contemplating things, "Do you mind if I come with you?"
