Malik
I yawned and shifted on my couch as the light shined into the living room. It was now morning and I'm just now waking up from the night before.
I pulled what I thought was Khalisé closer to me only to find out that it was a pillow instead.
"Yo." I mumbled, stretching before I started looking around. Where this girl at?
"Khalisé?" I said, standing up, going towards my kitchen. When I get there, there she was, standing beside my table, eating a salad that I had put up for myself.
"Sup?" She said, continuing to eat.
"First off, you always eating my shit." I said, stale facing her. "Second off, how long you been up?"
"I woke up around 8. Been listening to music and eating some of ya food. My bad dawg." She said, blankly.
I nodded as it went quiet. One think I don't understand is how she can stand here and act like everything is fine, as if she didn't stay up crying all night.
"What's up?" I asked, leaning on the counter.
"What?"
"What was going on yesterday?"
"What you talking about?"
"Khalisé." I looked at her as she looked at me with the same expression on her face. "So we still not gonna talk about why you were crying all day yesterday?"
"Nope." She shook her head. "Just a moment of weakness that's all. You'll never see that again, by the way."
"Khalisé, if something is bothering you, you can tell me. We don't have to push it away like it ain't nothing." I said, walking closer to her.
"Uh uh." She said, putting her hand up, stopping me. "Imma hardbody, Le. I'll know when I need to talk about something."
I nodded. "Okay. Whatever you want." I decided to drop the situation since you can tell she didn't want to talk about it right then.
I just hope she's okay with whatever is going on.

Jermaine"Bro, you're literally not making fucking sense to me." I mumbled, holding the bridge of my nose.
"How is that not making sense, Dub?!" Her voice screeched out.
"Because what person in their right mind isn't gonna want a DNA test for a child that already 7 years old and you just now finding out about it?"
"A man." I stale faced that bitch.
"A dumbass." I replied, taking a breath in. "Look Ivy, I done already told you. I need a DNA test. Once I get that, I'll be around the boy whenever, if he's mine."
"Mhmm kay." She mumbled, snatching her purse up. "But when this test says you're the father, ion wanna hear shit!"
My jaw clenched as she walked away. "Jermaine, why the fuck did you have to go through a hoe phase?!" I asked myself.
I got my phone out and decided to text my sister.

I watched as Jermaine continued to blow my phone up since I was leaving him on read. My phone was on the couch, in between me and Vinchi.
"You just not gonna text him back?" He asked me.
"Nope." I stood up and walked into the kitchen because this is a never ending argument between me and him.
"Amara, come on. They're both trying."
"Vinchi you don't understand."
"I understand why you say that-"
"Vinchi." I waved my hand. "Stop. You don't understand. We all had a fresh start. A new life."
"I know that, Amara. Have you thought that maybe Malik didn't see another way out?" I scoffed.
"We're grown, Vinchi."
"I didn't say we weren't." He pulled a chair out and sat in it before grabbing my hand.
"I ain't got time for this, dawg."
"You gonna make time for it, mamas. Now listen." He said before basically sitting me in his lap.
"Malik's been doing this since he was 18. This was the only way to provide for two of the most important people in his life, well, three if you include Damien." He cleared his throat. "Sometimes it's not as hard to get out of something that you've been doing. You think I wanted to drop out of school?"
I looked at him with a stale look on my face.
"Answer the question, Amara."
"Nah, Vinchi."
"But guess what? I had to. And when I came to LA I wanted a fresh start. Me and King both wanted a fresh start, but it's not that easy. It just isn't, especially when you want to make sure your family forever straight, even if they sitting on money right along with you."
"Wait." I stopped him. "You're saying that Malik still in this because he wants to make sure me and Jermaine are good?"
"Oh, most definitely." He nodded. "From what I've learned, yeah you, Jermaine, and Malik been there for each other for a long time, but who was the one who took over after your parents passed?"
I sat there staring at him as I thought about everything he told me. I thought about all the times Malik would come home late, tired as hell, and still make sure me and Jermaine were okay. All the times me and Jermaine cried on Malik's shoulders together and Malik held us up, telling us everything gonna be okay. All the times even at Mr. Willams house when Malik helped us with homework, taught us to cook and clean and taught us basic life skills. He's been there.
"You're right." I mumbled, scratching my head. "Gosh, you're right."
"And I'm not saying you don't have a right to be mad. You just want what's best for your brothers. But not talking to them ain't gonna clear anything up."
I patted his knee. "And this is why I love you so much."
He kissed my lips. "I love you too. Now go get that phone and talk to them boys, please. Imma head over to King's and see wassup with them and my nephew."
"Niece." I corrected him and stood up. "And okay. Tell Nia and King I said hey and kiss my niece for me."
He looked at me. "I'm not kissing the girl stomach."
I laughed because I knew he would say that shit.
As he left I stood for a second. Not even thinking twice, I walked over and grabbed my phone off the couch.
