On the bridge that divided the two schools stood an entourage constituted by members of both schools. They waited patiently for the arrival of the new school guardian, some more patient than others.
Lady Dovey graced all with her wide and welcoming smile, happy to be one of the first to receive the new member of the staff, not any member too, the guardian would have an important input in all decisions who could or not influence the safety of the schools and of course the students. The guardian would choose in what school she would stay or could simply reside in the tower with the school Master but that was far less likely to happen.
"Hide that sickening smile Dovey, she's not even here yet, you don't have to kiss her ass just yet" said Lesso rolling her eyes to the princess. "It's just such a huge waste of my time, you are here how many people are required to welcome one person. The school Master clearly didn't think this was important enough to grace us with his presence"
"Lesso don't be like that, the master has manifested that he would have loved nothing more than to be here but unforeseen events got in the way as they do"
"Of course..." Lesso said with the most sarcastically charming smile "How unfortunate".
"Still" Dovey continued displeased by her colleague's actions "It is our duty, no, our honour nevertheless to receive the new member of our family with open harms and charming smiles"
Lesso looked as she was about to throw up but fortunately for her a carriage arrived in the distance as a sign of hope to finish her torture, all of this fake hospitality was giving her the most horrid headache. The carriage was old and it travelled at such speed that it looked as if it would fall apart before it got here, but one can only hope, though Lesso.
"Finally... we can get this over with"
The closer it got to the bridge it slowed dramatically, because it would be such a shame if it were to fall off even if it was incredibly entertaining. The mere thought of it made Lesso laugh to herself while Dovey's concerned look faded only to be replaced by her bright smile once more.
The carriage ride was a true roller coaster, the most fun I had in weeks, as a goodbye gift Evelyn made sure to get the most demented man to ride the horses. It was a good distraction and it helped me dry my eyes and forget my worries for a good while. But now the fun is over, and the work begins. Apparently the schools arranged for a welcoming committee, who the hell do they think they are hiring for the job because they are about to be deeply underwhelmed.
The chauffeur opened the door for me, I came out slowly trying not to step on my dress. A long black dress with flowers and a tear that showed my leg and shoulders, it had a flattering corset and I loved it so much even though it was terribly impractical for my line of work. When I was finally out of the danger zone and able to look up my heart stopped, I was paralysed by the most beautiful set of green eyes I'd ever had the pleasure of meeting. In front of me stood one of the most beautiful women with the most mischievous smile that made my heart crumble. I soon realised that this isn't the first impression that I wanted to portray.
"Still a little disoriented from the trip I see" said the smiling woman in yellow next to the red head woman.
She didn't seem to hold it against me, I've never met someone that seemed so pure it was intriguing but not my main focus of attention.
"Well" said Lady Lesso, her voice was mesmerising "if you can't handle a little turbulence I hardly think you're the person for the job"
"You have nothing to be concerned" I said, surprising myself of how fast I responded in my state and hopping I wouldn't screw up "I'm fast on my feet and I've dealt with much worst" I was loving her undivided attention on me and I didn't wanted to lose it, not just yet "You would be surprised..."
"We'll see"
God this woman was impressive, she made me forget we were surrounded by people but I needed to put that aside. I came here for a reason, a very exciting one and I couldn't wait to start. With that I regained my proud, assertive posture, and examined the people in front of me. The woman in yellow stepped forward and greeted me with a little bow.
"I am Lady Dovey, Dean of the School for Good... I take under my wings all of the future Princes and Princesses that will make the stories that change the world" she said quite theatrically.
"And I," said the woman with red hair "Am Lady Lesso, Dean of the School for Evil".
School for Evil, how interesting.
"It's a pleasure to meet you all" I said cutting the introduction short "now if you excuse my rudeness I would dispense the formalities, there is no need for those"
"Well then..." said Lady Dovey "Straight to the point, you must choose where to stay, with me in the beautiful School for Good, surrounded by beautiful gardens and fairies or... in the other one"
I laughed. How petty they were with each other, it was almost entertaining if there wasn't so much to do.
"My personal preferences are beyond the point my Lady, where do my soldiers lay? I believe that a leader should stay with its own" I looked at Dovey waiting for a response but she seemed stunned by my choice.
"Well then," Lady Lesso said, motioning an order to the man wolves that stood behind her to retrieve my luggage "I guess our new guest is staying with me" she said with a winners smirk.
I looked at the amazing beasts carrying my heavy luggage, how intimidating and thrilling to be in a fight against one, certainly much more impressive than the sloppy teen boys I was teaching out to use a sword.
"Are those my men?" I said in a whisper looking at Lesso who stood now much closer to me. She didn't have to answer, she just started waiting to see my reaction, to see if I would back down from my position "Impressive specimens" I said approaching one.
It seemed quite flattered by my comment, I guess they don't get them very often. I found it adorable.
"Soldier" I said, he regained his military posture.
"Yes, my General" he said, causing me to chuckle.
"There is no need for rankings here, soldier was a figure of speech" I said in an attempt to relax the beast "What is your name?"
"Uhm..." he looked around confused "I was not assigned a name my Lady"
"Okay... that is... unusual but solvable, all my men deserve a title, how do you wish to be named then?"
He stood in silence for a moment contemplating on the opportunity given to him as unique. He looked up and down without feeling rushed or overwhelmed, then when he was sure of his response he looked back at me.
"I liked when you called me soldier, my Lady"
"Very well, then Soldier it will be"
He smiled a little proud of himself and I let him have his moment before I assigned him his orders.
"You will be assigned as my right hand, I will go to my chambers and change to something more... practical. I want you to gather all of the other men to the place you usually train, I want every man with an assigned name engraved on his armour, I will join you in 30 minutes more or less".
"Yes my Lady" he said waiting for my order to disperse, I nodded my head and he went on with his assignment.
"30 minutes?" said Lady Dovey choked "Y/N you had a long journey here no one will blame you if you take the rest of the day to yourself"
Rest? I laughed out loud, shocking the poor innocent woman. I didn't sell my soul to the unclean to need rest and food or any kind of human needs. Plus there was a certain je ne sais quoi in the air, a special wind that made my nerves tremble, like the electricity in the air before a storm or the rain before a battle. Perfect, better than coffee.
"No need to worry, the night is still young and I can't wait to get my hands dirty, now where is my room?"
