I have yet to see an AU with Lexa being in modern time war....ish. So this is my kind of take on that. A bit longer, but y/all deserve it.

Inspiration - Love Bug by the Jonas Bros.

Clarke and Lexa have been together for about 7 years, for the last 2 years it was long distance because Lexa joined the military. She joined because Clarke's father served in the military. As Clarke and Lexa became closer, meeting her parents and what not, Clarke's father was a very inspiring man for Lexa. She looked up to him like her own father, if she had one that is. She as abandoned as a child and put into foster care. When Clarke's father passed away in battle, Lexa decided that maybe it was time for her to join. She didn't want to at first, because she would be away from Clarke, but she felt like it was the right thing to do. Clarke's father protected Clarke. Lexa felt that he passed on the torch to her, because they have become so close over the years. She joined because she wanted to keep her safe. Lexa was a people person, after what she's been through as a child, being abandoned by her own family, she became sympathetic. Wanting to help people in any way that she could, weather is be as simple helping them up if they fell to fighting in a war, she cared.

Clarke on the other hand, was very upset with her decision. She didn't like the idea of spending her days having a long distance relationship. Of course most of the time long distance relationships didn't last, but she didn't want to think like that. She wants to keep her close. She wanted to feel protected by her when she's near, not miles and miles apart. Clarke eventually gave in to her decision, wanting to support her in everything, because that's how a relationship is based on, trust and support. As internally angry and sad as she was for letting her go, she would always hold onto hope, that she would come home safe and sound.

There was no doubt in either of their minds that they were scared, not only for themselves but for each other. A lot can happen in one year, heck, a lot can happen within a day. They kept on pulling through each and every day they were apart, they tried to hide away their fears, but they knew each other well enough to know that they scared.

Clarke spends most of the days in fear, never knowing when and if Lexa would return to her. From time and time again, she spend her days crying in her room, it wasn't a rare thing, because she would think about her all the time.

Lexa on the other hand, wasn't scared of the killing, and the explosions happening from right and left, she would be afraid of never seeing her beautiful girlfriend ever again, wondering whether their goodbyes would be there last.

Will it?

[Clarke's POV]
Majority of the time Octavia and Raven would be with me to keep me company while Lexa was away. We usually just hang out a bit, watch a movie or go out for dinner. Most of the time, they... well Octavia, would stay overnight. She definitely loves staying here with me. I never really minded, I don't really like it when this place gets too quiet, especially at night. I guess you can say that I'm kind of scared of the dark. I'm actually glad that she hasn't gotten tired of spending so much time with me. I guess its cause she just wants girl time, other than spend time with her own brother. She's great, she helps me get over the stress that I usually have everyday worrying about Lexa. It's like Lexa's spirit was passed onto Octavia while she's away. I wouldn't know how to handle myself if Octavia too wasn't here.

Well that's been going on for about ... 11 months or so. Lexa's on her second tour overseas, but I'm starting to get scared and even more worried than I usually do. I haven't heard from her in the last couple of weeks. Lexa usually gets a day or two off every week, in which she spends that time Skyping with me or talking on the phone for the day. God I miss her, but she's coming back in a month.... right? Sigh.
