Chapter Text

Kate and Anthony followed Agatha Danbury into the sitting room. Daphne sat next to Violet and Agatha went and sat right next to them. Anthony and Kate took their seats in front. Anthony held Kate's hand, assuring her that they will face anything and everything together. He would not let anyone keep them apart.

Just then, Simon walked in. He exclaimed "Thank Heavens! Miss Sharma, please don't do that again." Benedict and Colin followed right after Simon. Anthony looked at his friend and his brothers and smiled.

Anthony started. "I am glad you are all here. I have an important announcement to make. Kate and I are getting married."

Lady Danbury was shocked, "You can not be serious!! You are still married to her sister."

Daphne interjected "That should have never happened. He was stupid and WE let him ruin his life, her life. But all that is a moot point, Edwina ran away and now he has a second chance to fix all of it. How could anyone be against this?"

Benedict, Colin and Simon came and stood right next to Daphne nodding their heads. Violet tried to make peace "Perhaps we can all calm down and think about a solution"

Lady Danbury ignored Daphne and addressed Anthony "We are all embroiled in the biggest scandal in many years and the Queen is looking for heads to roll. She blessed your 'true love match' with her diamond and oversaw your wedding. And within a month, your wife ran away with your friend and you want to marry your sister-in-law??"

"Unfortunately I am entangled in this mess because I sponsored the Sharma sisters," Then her voiced lowered almost to a squeaky whisper "and I may have nudged the queen to make Edwina her diamond," and then loudly again "And, I allowed your courtship to continue despite knowing of your foolishness, courting one sister and eyeing the other. hmmm.."

Violet gasped "You saw it too!" Danbury continued shaking her head "Now, I am willing to pay for my sins but I will not tolerate any more of your foolishness. Do you even understand what will happen, when the world knows what we know? About you coveting your sister-in-law?"

Kate objected immediately "Please, Lady Danbury! He has done nothing wrong. This is all my fault. Not anyone else's" Lady Danbury turned to Kate with a frustrated look "That is enough from you. And don't you dare say you are leaving for India or I will break your legs with my cane."

Anthony would have kissed Lady Danbury right then, even though she threatened violence on his beloved, but she was also pissing him off with her nonsense. He started again. "There is no need for anyone to worry. Kate and I will leave the country and go far away where our lives will not scandalize anyone. I have already started the paperwork to appoint Benedict as the Viscount. No one can stop us. It is done."

The Bridgertons yelled in unison "NO!" Benedict continued "Brother, you and Miss Sharma are not going anywhere. I am not taking the Viscountcy neither are Colin or Gregory."

Violet felt she was losing her son again. She cried "Why are you making things more difficult? All of this could have been avoided, if you only listened earlier" Anthony looked at his mother and said "Yes, Mother. I know I am a disgrace and my father would be ashamed of me."
