* Flashback*
After meeting Videl for the first time at the restaurant, Gohan spent the next two days alone, in his room, staring at the phone number written on his palm. He couldn't believe she had given him her phone number. She didn't even know him!
'Is she the type of girl to give any man her number?' Gohan wondered, quickly shaking his head at the thought.' No, she's not like that.' He'd never spoken to her before that day, but somehow he knew she wasn't one of those girls. She was a good girl.
Still, it seemed too good to be true. Was getting a girlfriend really that easy?
"It has to be a fake number," Gohan decided.
He ignored his mother and brother's stares as he marched straight to the kitchen sink.
"Would you like something to eat, sweetie?" Chichi kindly offered. She'd peeked in on Gohan the day before, curious as to why Gohan refused to leave his room. A warm feeling of pride flowed through her body upon seeing Gohan sitting at his desk, his advanced math book open in front of him.
"No thanks mom," Gohan replied. He stared at the number one final time, remembering the cute girl with black pig tails, then turned on the faucet, averting his gaze as the hot water pounded into his palm and washed away the fading black ink.
He was never going to think of that girl again. He was going to march back into his room and catch up on his studies. Girlfriends were for the less evolved. Besides, his mother made it clear at the restaurant that she didn't approve of Videl's 'sassy attitude.'
Gohan turned off the faucet and dried his hands with a nearby towel. He felt his mother watching him closely.
He closed his eyes, counting how long it was going to take to catch up on his studies. . . he needed to resume his work as quickly as possible, or else he wouldn't get any sleep until the next day. And his mother would never let him hear the end of it.
He took one step back towards his room, then another.
"Gohan." Chichi barked, demanding her son's attention, perhaps reading something in Gohan's face that she didn't like.
Gohan started towards a new direction, one away from his confined living space and controlling mother.
"Gohan, where are you going?" Chichi shouted, running towards the front door in time to watch her eldest son fly away." Gohan!"
'I have to see her again,' Gohan thought as he flew in the direction of the island that housed a small restaurant and tournament stadium.
.
.
Gohan opened his eyes and quickly rolled to his left.
Videl's fist struck into the ground where he had lain, leaving a deep hole behind in the concrete floor.
Gohan touched the space behind his head, maneuvered his legs into the air, and did a perfect flip before Videl could nail him with another punch.
"How long was I out?" Gohan shouted, glancing at Bulma. Videl took advantage of his distraction and slapped him, hard, on the cheek.
Gohan skidded into a row of computers, coming to a complete stop on top of Bulma's crushed desk and favorite computer, which was now a pile of small parts and wires.
Bulma crossed one leg over the other, wiggling the tip of her shoe in mild annoyance in Gohan's face. With Vegeta as a husband and housemate, the mess Videl was creating was child's play in comparison.
"About three seconds," Bulma answered, lighting the cigarette secured between her red lips.
"Three seconds!" Gohan exclaimed, letting out a surprised yelp as Videl picked him up by the ankle and tossed him into the ceiling.
"Maybe five." Bulma shrugged, stomping out the cigarette as quickly as she lit it." Geez Gohan, you really let yourself go. Trunks could handle her at this level."
'Level? I don't like the sound of that.' Gohan transformed into a Super Saiyan, freeing himself from the small crater in the ceiling. At the same time, destroying the flooring above him. Gohan grimaced." Sorry about that."
"Don't be." Bulma said, her lips set into a tight smile." This place could use some redecorating."
"Ahhh!" Videl roared, preparing to land a kick to Gohan's chin. He deflected her blow. Her eyes widened, surprised that Gohan had enough power to defend himself, then smirked." You're not as weak as you look. Good. I don't want a wimp for a boyfriend." She roared as she charged at Gohan again. He flashed out of sight and appeared behind her, hooking his forearms under her armpits and restraining her in a tight hold.
" Who's supposed to be the wimp again?" Gohan asked, unable to keep himself from gloating. He was terrified of his new girlfriend, true, but a part of him was enjoying their battle. It'd been too long since he last had a sparring match.
"Still you," Videl responded, her powered up aura pushing Gohan into the air. He stopped himself before he could make a second hole in the ceiling.
"I think it's time you ended this!" Bulma shouted, her hands cupped around her mouth to amplify her voice." You have that thing to go to, remember?"
'The group date! I completely forgot!' Gohan flailed his arms in a panic." How am I supposed to stop this when she started it? You don't expect me to hit her, do you?" She was just an android, but she also had Videl's face. Gohan didn't think he could hit anything that resembled the real Videl.
"Just admit you were wrong."
"About what?" Gohan shrieked, bringing his arms up in time to deflect another one of Videl's blows.
"Just do it before she destroys what's left of my lab!" Bulma snapped.
Gohan lowered his hands, took a deep breath, then waited for Videl's fist to come within an inch of his nose before finally shouting," I'M SORRY I TOLD YOU TO OBEY ME!"
Videl paused.
'She's never going to accept my apology,' Gohan gulped, staring at the small fist aimed at breaking his nose.
"And...?"
Gohan could tell she was searching for a correct response. He glanced at Bulma for help. His plight was thoroughly amusing to her, and she shrugged, unwilling to give him the correct answer he needed. Was this payback for breaking her computer and part of the ceiling?
"And. . . I'm sorry I ignored you when I was talking to Bulma?"
"Oh, Gohan," Videl giggled, causing Gohan to flinch as she wrapped her arms around him in a tight, deadly hug." Do you really mean it?" Her voice turned into a dark growl as she added," Or are you just saying these things because Bulma told you to?"
"No, no, I mean it." Gohan insisted, thinking on his feet." To show you that I'm sorry, I'm going to buy you flowers!" He gently removed himself from Videl's tight embrace.
"Flowers?" Videl's eyes dimmed slightly as she stared at the wall past Gohan's shoulders." Flowers: a colored, sometimes scented, part of a plant that contains its reproductive organs. Often given as gifts by human males to respective females in hopes of mating." Videl's eyes brightened and she met Gohan's gaze, a small smile on her face." Yes flowers would be appreciated. Thank you, boyfriend."
Gohan nervously laughed as he suggested Videl help Bulma clean up the lab while he went to buy flowers.
"I might be gone for a few hours," Gohan said, suddenly wishing he'd asked his brother how long group dates usually lasted. He waved goodbye to his girlfriend before disappearing into the hall.
"Why do I feel like I'm doing something wrong?" Gohan asked himself while running to meet Trunks, Goten, and their dates at the café adjacent to Capsule Corporation.
