Question His Decision

"Glad you could make it, bro," Goten said, grinning proudly once he noticed Gohan was wearing contacts and didn't look like a nerd for once.

Gohan felt very uneasy. His girlfriend had just been activated less than ten minutes ago, and he wasn't an expert or anything, but wasn't going on a group date a form of cheating? Knowing his girlfriend could look out any of the windows of Capsule Corp and see him standing outside the café wasn't helping him calm down, either. The hairs on Gohan's neck spiked up as he thought of what VIDEL would do to him if she caught him cheating.

" Goten, i can't do this."

"Sure you can," Goten replied, his fingers pushing multiple buttons on his cell phone as he texted. "Just smile, tell her she's pretty, and she's yours. Easy."

"No, you don't understand..."

"I think i do," Goten growled, pocketing his phone and glaring at his brother." Don't chicken out on me now! They're just girls, Gohan. It's not like I'm asking you to fight a Frieza-Cell fusion monster." He pointed at the sitting, gloomy, depressed figure on the bench next to him." Trunks has been looking forward to this date all week!"

"It's Valentine's Day," Trunks mumbled to himself, dressed in his usual yellow jacket vest, black top and matching pants. To Gohan, with his puffy eyes, vacant expression and slouching posture, Trunks looked more like a hobo." And she's probably spending the day in bed with her stupid yoga instructor."

Goten sympathetically patted his friend on the back." See how excited he is to get over his on-again-off-again girlfriend?"

"Yeah, but..."

Goten's phone started to ring, which sounded like a quacking duck. Goten slid the phone out of his pocket, pressed the green button, and placed the phone over his ear. "HI, this is Goten."

'What am i going to do?' Gohan wondered, glancing over his shoulder back at Capsule Corp.

"Yeah, we'll meet you there. Bye." Goten said, hanging up his phone." Change of plans, guys. We're going to meet our dates at the Passion Karaoke Bar." He stared his brother in the eyes, and Gohan forced himself not to look away." Are you coming or not?'

Gohan and Trunks walked side by side while Goten walked ahead of them, skirting through people and leading the way to the Passion Karaoke Bar.

Gohan stared with child-like wonder at all the couples they passed. He couldn't believe he'd almost forgotten Valentine's Day, and made a note to pick up a box of chocolates for his mother after he picked up flowers for VIDEL.

" I hate Valentine's Day. It's a stupid holiday."

Gohan wasn't sure how to respond to Trunks' statement without making him feel more depressed. He doubted his friend wanted to hear the history of St. Valentine. For Trunks, seeing people happily in love did not lift his mood or pique his curiosity. " Yeah...I hate seeing red and pink hearts everywhere."

Trunks quirked his eyebrow, then chuckled.

After a moment, Gohan chuckled too.

"Is this your first date, Gohan?"

"No, it's my second."

Trunks waited for Gohan to tell him more about his first date, but only silence followed Gohan's answer. Interestingly, Gohan's expression changed, becoming more sullen, like the way his face normally looked after Goten had pushed his buttons a little too far.

" Oh, I remember Goten mentioning Lime once. I thought she only saw you as a friend."

" I wasn't talking about Lime," Gohan said, smirking mysteriously to himself.

Trunks kept prodding Gohan to tell him about his first date, but soon gave up when they reached the karaoke bar. The secret of Gohan's first love was always going to be a secret, Trunks realized.

Although he didn't know what type of person Gohan's first girlfriend was, Trunks understood that she was holding him back. After all, Goten had practically begged Gohan to go on the group date.

"Whoever she was..." Trunks stopped as a thought struck him. Maybe Gohan's first girlfriend wasn't a girl." Or, whoever he was...whatever he did to hurt you... you should forget him and move on." Trunks smiled a little." It's like Goten keeps saying, 'there's plenty of fish in the sea, but there's still plenty of people, so we don't have to start dating fish yet.'" *

"I can't forget her," Gohan sighed, not cracking a smile at Trunks' joke." It's impossible."

The happiness Gohan felt earlier suddenly vanished, leaving him to question his decision to create an android that resembled Videl.
