A young woman sat down by the road, looking along the dark scenery. The stars glittered brightly in the sky, but it only allowed slight vision. She sat on the dry dirt, her feet down in a trench right next to the road.
The cool night breeze blew her thin and short red locks of hair. They whipped and slapped against her face, but the woman did not react. She placed her thin pale elbow on her thigh and rested her chin against her open palm. Her nails were long and beautifully done, the pattern across each of them was unique but cohesive.
Her eyes were an ocean blue, starring out into the abyss of the stary night. Her pale lips were small and pressed against each other. Occasionally she would shift her teeth against each other while her mouth was closed, but it was imperceivable.
The woman was wearing makeup, making her pink skin look lively. She added shadow around her eyes to make the ocean in them to look clear, she even added a little bit of lipstick over her pale lips to have them pop against her skin. This was far out of the norm for her, as it could be inferred from her discarded license on the ground just to her lift.
Her photo showed the woman without any makeup on her face. In comparison to how she looked now, it could be seen that they were two separate people. They're driver's license show of her beauty paled in comparison to how she looked currently, close to that of a model. The only way you could tell that both women were the same was the dead look they perfectly replicated of this moment.
The woman starred emotionlessly out into complete darkness. She sighed and rolled her eyes up, without shifting her head. The moon was large tonight, shining like it was creating its own like. A picture would not be able to represent the stunning sight she saw now. It made the woman's expression sour.
She wore extravagant clothes, clearly a different look from the formal button up in her driver's license. The girl had a long orange dress, an area cut near the bottom to reveal her leg. She had red ribbons wrapped around her waist, arms and hair and she had expensive black high heels. She clearly had been out for a night out.
This woman was named Sarah White, and her name was no more interesting than her day-to-day life. She did accounting at a bank, she made a good sum of money, but it didn't change the fact she had no friends, no lover and no place or hobby she could really spend enjoying herself. Reaching her thirties, Sarah wanted to change, start a new leaf for herself and final experience what everyone else is experiencing.
She dressed up, bought expensive gowns and shoes. She researched how to apply makeup and even learned how to act at clubs. She did all of these things in hopes to achieve on thing. To make herself visible to the world.
And it worked! Sarah hit it off with more than one guy, receiving more than a few glares and sneers from other woman at the club. She had never felt so alive, so pleased with all of the praises from the men around her, she had never felt so wanted.
She got her wish of being seen; she rose to be the star of the club that night. Sarah essentially got first pick of the man she wanted to spend with after the bar shutdown. Obviously, she chose a hunk with money, this was the first time Sarah got to be a priority and she was going to make the most of it. Even if it was only one night.
Sarah sat alone on the side of the road, wondering where she went wrong. She rested her hand against her chin and her fingers unconsciously curled and scratched the side of her face. Where did she go wrong with tonight, this had been the first time she had experienced any sought of euphoria for a while, perhaps years.
But now here she was, her dress dirty and her mood ruined. Maybe she should have stayed as the unnoticed account she was before. Maybe being popular or a star was not meant for Sarah White. When you reach for the stars, you'll only crash back down. Man did she crash back hard.
Sarah looked away, her face scrunching up into a pained expression, but no tears leaked from her eyes. Perhaps this night, this one night was enough for her. She couldn't have lived as the previous Sarah White forever, then knowing how it felt to be seen. No way could she have gone back to her regular boring life.
But looking down at her crumpled corpse lying face down in the trench, Sarah still had to wonder if it was worth it. Blood ran from her neck, creating a pool around her head. Her body was littered with dirt and now mosquitoes were flying over to her rotting corpse.
Sarah just wanted to know what it was like to be visible. She got her wish, but now she'll have to live the rest of her life as it was before. Invisible to the world like how she always has been for the entirely of her life.
