After Rachel first came into her cave, Baam learned more and more about the outside world. She had lessons every day, learning how to speak, and write, and Baam was surprisingly good at it and she learned quickly. It's like remembering something I already knew. But my memory of it is very foggy. When Baam knew most of the basic things, Rachel came in with a game called 'chess'. Most of the time, Rachel beat her, but soon after figuring out the pattern, Baam beat her more often.

Rachel used to get frustrated when Baam beat her. Last time, after Rachel had given Baam rice, and some spicy soup with braised meat and vegetables, Baam had asked to play chess together. Hah. She must be dying to beat me again and show off. Rachel agreed and tried to beat Baam. "Ch-checkmate?" Rachel felt embarrassed at the questioning tone in her voice. "Of course it's checkmate." Rachel said again, this time more confident. Baam shook her head. "N-No. No checkmate. I can move where." She said, pointing at multiple boxes. Oh, just shut the hell up already and let me win! Rachel forced a smile and said "It's there or here, not where. Where is questioning? You got it?" Rachel snapped, annoyed that Baam had known better than her.

What a stupid girl. I can't believe that this is Arlene's daughter. I can't believe she's supposed to be teaching me. The two girls smiled sickeningly sweetly at each other until Rachel broke the silence by looking away "It's your turn." She said, nodding at the board. Baam's mind whirred into action until the answer clicked into place. She moved her bishop to the black square, diagonal to Rachel's king.

"Checkmate."
