ALEX

I run into the hospital, desperate. I had gotten a call from Trey telling me his friend who works at the restaurant told him Ana had an accident caused by Sabrina and was taken to the hospital.

I couldn't stop thinking the worst. I went up to a nurse and asked her where I could find Ana. She gave me her room number and I ran as fast as I could. Once I arrived I pushed through that door and saw the love of my life in the hospital bed, an IV hooked to her arm.

She was looking out the window but with all the commotion, her eyes met mine. She looked exhausted and wore a pale complexion. "Ana," I say, walking towards her.

"Alex," She whispered weakly. It broke me. What had happened to her? If only I was there to prevent this. I would've never allowed this to happen. I would've never allowed Sabrina to lay a finger on Ana if I knew.

"How are you feeling?"

"Mas o Menos." She replies.

"What happened?"

"Something about dehydration and then the blow your wife gave me. Alex, I've never told anyone but, I was abused. All of that trauma has been bottled up and when I got hit...I guess my body shut down."

I felt heavy. Rage for Sabrina and pity for Ana. My poor, poor Ana. "You're okay now." I say, putting my hand on her cheek. A lone tear escapes her eye. "You're safe baby."

I wanted to say so much more, I wanted to kiss her and hold her and take the weight of the world off her shoulders. I wanted to protect her from any evil and hurt. But I couldn't because life was not fair.

"I love you." I whisper. She looks at me and the tears start falling faster. "You can't. You have your wife."

At that moment the doctor walks into the room. I straighten up and Ana wipes her tears away. "Good day. I am Dr.Watson and I'll be taking care of you today. I just wanted to give you some updates from the exams we took."

Dr.Watson turned to look at me. "This information is confidential. Is he your partner?"

I look at Ana as she hesitates.

"No." She says. Dr.Watson nods his head. "Please wait outside."

"Give us a minute please." I say. Dr.Watson nods and heads out. I turn to Ana.

"You are the most beautiful person I have ever met inside and out and I hope you know that. You will never see me or Sabrina again. I want you to live your life freely, love again, okay?"

Ana's brows furrowed, her lips quivering. "Just go." She croaks. I stand and plant a kiss on her lips, nice and slow, just like our first time on that roof on New Year's Eve.

Without another word I walk out of that room and walk out of Ana's life.
