“Zane,” I yelled after him.
He turned and flashed me his 100 watt smile. I stopped dead in my tracks and felt as though my
heart skipped a million beats. I grabbed at my chest trying to make sure that I was still alive and I
noticed Zane running up to me.
“Are you okay Serein?” he asked with pain in his voice. He grabbed my arm and placed the other
hand on my back to steady me.
“I’m fine, I just can’t believe the response my body has from just your smile. It makes me wonder
what is going to happen when I get more than that,” I replied honestly. I smiled up at him when I
noticed that his eyes went wide in shock. I broke our eye contact because what I needed to do was
going to be hard enough on me without him dazzling me with his good looks.
“What is going on Serein?”
“I have to leave for a little while. I’m not sure how long exactly and I promise to keep in touch with
you but I have some business that I need to attend to.”
“What is it? Are you in some kind of trouble? Please let me know what I can do, you are scaring
me.”
“There is nothing you can do. Trust me when I say that I cannot tell you or it would make matters
even worse. Please just let me and know that I will come back to you.” I whispered. Zane wiped the
tears off my cheeks and I leaned in slowly and kissed him full on the lips. He wrapped his fingers
in my hair and I did the same to him.
The kiss didn’t last long but it held a passion that I had never experienced before. I broke from the
kiss and hugged the man that I was already falling head over heels for. I started walking away from
Zane as the tears welled up in his eyes.
“I love you Serein,” he told me. It sounded as natural as if he had been saying it for years.
“I’ll be back for you as soon as I can Zane,” and with that I turned around and walked
away from one of the best things that has happened in my life to complete the mission that
would allow me to love him back.
