Daryl's POV

I woke up to the sun shining brightly in my eyes an glanced over to where Beth lay asleep. She looked so peaceful in sleep, it was hard to believe we were in an apocalypse.

We'd set up camp last night in a small cave not far from the burning cabin, and after I'd set up some spare cans on a bit of rope, we were out like lights.

Last night was kinda hazey to me. Had I really told her all that? And then held her hand? And why did I feel no regret?

"Mm...Daryl are you there?" she suddenly mumbled, half asleep. "Yea yea I'm here, how are you?" "Fine just tired, I know I've only woken up but where are we gonna go Daryl?"

I'd seen a funeral home not far from here that looked like it'd be good temporarily so told her all about it while we packed up our belongings.

"Daryl, I was wondering, could you teach me how to track?" I turned to see a hopeful expression on her face, "Alright" I replied.

We went out straight away, and I looked around for something to track. I seen walker tracks and decided we'd start with those; "Hey Beth, found somethin over here"

She came over and I handed her the crossbow. "So..... They're kinda in a zigzag, it's a walker!" she exclaimed, "soon I won't need you at all" she beemed

"Yea yea we'll see" was all I said in response, but couldn't manage to hide the grin that escaped my lips.

She ran on ahead of me, and when I caught up I could see her standing watching a walker. It was lookin the other way, hunched over somethin.

"Beth" I whispered, "Be careful." She looked over at me, "Course Mr Dixon" she smirked.

I could the determination in her every footstep, she was doing well. Then suddenly, she was pulled down as if by an invisible hand, "Daryl, Daryl help!" she half screamed at me, but I was on it and had crushed my dagger into it's skull before she could finish her sentence.

Pulling out my bloody dagger, I ran over to her, "Beth, what happened, shit you scared me,what..." I began, then looked down at her leg. Shit, it was trapped of one of those huntin traps, "Hey hold still" I told her as reassuringly as possible.

She winced just a little as I carefully removed her foot from the trap, "Thanks so much Daryl that hurt like a bitch" she said looking up at me. "No problem, um do you need help, that's gotta hurt."

"Yea I guess I do" she said, "Alright" I answered. I helped her to stand up and put her arm around my shoulders and we walked like that thorough the rest of the forest until we came onto the graveyard clearing.

"Dam, could we stop for a sec, this is killing me" she pleaded. "Na, hey jump up" "Wait, are you serious?" "Course, it's a serious piggyback"

"Well alright" she said, and with that I held onto her delicate, yet strong body as she wrapped her arms around my neck. "Haven't had a piggyback in ages, I feel like a child again" I could feel her laugh, and it felt good, haven't heard laughter in a long time.

Bounding across the clearing, she tapped on my shoulder and I knew what she meant; let me down. And I immediately seen what for, a gravestone for a loving father; somethin her dad deserved but never got.

Silently, I walked over to a patch of small yellow flowers and took a bunch. Then I laid them on top of the grave and walked back over to her.

Suddenly, as if to show her appreciation, she laced her small fingers thorough mine without a word for the second time in two days and squeezed gently.

I didn't say anything to her because I didn't want to disturb the silence. But in that moment, even though I didn't quite understand it, I felt some sorta connection with the blonde angel by my side.
