Prologue

Hello. My name is Helena. I live in Gavaldon, a small village surrounded by forest, more precisely I live alone on the border between the forest and Gavaldon.

I moved out because I was tired of hearing my own mother tell me I was an embarrassment, a disappointment and that I should be prettier like my stepsister Sophie.

It's unbelievable to be compared to a 5 year old.

Sophie is a blonde child with green eyes who loves to dress in pink, of course taught by our mother that beauty is everything. I am completely different, a brunette with heterochromia, I prefer more comfortable and simple clothes, which disappoints my mother.

Sophie and I are half sisters, same mother but different father.Before my mother married Sophie's father, Stefan, she had an affair with an unknown man and I was born.

Stefan has always treated me well, being the only one in the whole village.

When my mother realized that I wasn't following in her footsteps (like wearing pink every day or spending 4 hours taking care of my skin, which I think is absurd) she started talking bad about me in the village, saying that I'm a lazy person that I'm no help at all, that I'm rude and that I mistreat my younger sister.Unfortunately everyone believed and started avoiding me.

Everything changed when the least expected day arrived for the adults of Gavaldon, the night when the school master of the School for Good and Evil comes to pick up 2 children to study there.

To better understand every four years, two children are kidnapped here in the village of Gavaldon. Usually, one child is well-behaved and beautiful and the other is ugly and quirky. The kidnapper, known as "the school master", supposedly kidnaps them to the School for Good and Evil where they are trained to become fairytale heroes and villains.

Everyone said I was going to be taken to the School for Evil this year, and they were more or less right.
