Elijah stepped back inside the compound. The world felt suddenly very quiet without his brother, and he missed him even more now. He went to find Freya first, and she gave him a tender hug, not expecting that he was coming home. In the midst of greeting the rest of the family, who were overjoyed to have him back, including his young daughter, he realised one special person was missing.

'Where is Lilliana?' he asked.

'She's up in your room,' Freya offered. 'Probably cried herself to sleep.' He moved away from them, heading upstairs, finding me exactly where Freya said I'd be. I was on the floor, sobbing, clutching one of Elijah's shirts, when I heard a familiar cadence of footsteps. I turned, and I cried out, tears rolling down my face.

'No. No. Wh-what? How... how are you here?' Big tears rolled down her face, and her bottom lip trembled with sadness.

'Niklaus convinced me to come back. To be here - for you. For our daughter.' I broke down, dropping the shirt and standing, coming to him and wrapping my arms around him, pulling him into a deep, teary kiss. I sniffled, letting out soft sobs. When I pulled back, he planted another kiss on my lips tenderly.

'I missed you. Please don't ever leave again. You hear?'

'Yes. I promise. I won't leave. Not for as long as I live.' We kissed again, and he lifted me into his arms with ease, my legs wrapping around him. He laid me gently on the bed, crawling on top of me, and claimed my lips with his again, shedding his jacket and shirt as he went.

Several days later...

The silver Bentley sped down the highway, with complete and utter abandon. The couple inside the vehicle had no destination in mind. They'd left New Orleans several days ago and had a few of their possessions in the backseat of the car, hoping to end up somewhere - anywhere. One thing was for sure... they were never coming back to New Orleans.

Too many memories in that city.

Happy ones, yes, but also very sad ones.

Rebekah and Marcel had also left New Orleans, determined to start their lives together, vampires leaving the Quarter for good. Rebekah was aiming to get the cure from Mystic Falls, headed on a course to live her best life.

Kol also left New Orleans, headed home to be with his wife, Davina Claire, the former Harvest girl and witch of New Orleans.

Vincent Griffith, Freya Mikaelson, and Keelin were getting ready to settle down, continue living in New Orleans and starting a family.

Hope Mikaelson, Elijah and Lilliana's niece, returned to the Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted to continue her education. And hopefully, in the near future, stay out of trouble.

Elijah and Lilliana's daughter, Clarice Olivia Mikaelson, also went with Hope to the Salvatore School, to start her education as a budding witch with an insane amount of power, being a firstborn Mikaelson. Alaric Saltzman and Caroline Forbes had been all too happy to take her on as a student and look after her while Elijah and Lilliana left to start their new life together.

The windows were down, a light, warm breeze blowing into the car. As the car turned a bend in the road and settled out to the straight road again, Elijah looked over from the driver's seat at his Lilliana, his wife, and smiled. She smiled back at him, reaching across the console to hold his hand.

'Where to, Elijah?' she asked. He looked back at the road for a split second, then back at her with nothing but love in his eyes.

'Next stop, anywhere,' he replied softly.

The car rounded another bend and sped out of sight. To an unknown destination. With many more adventures to be had.
