On the Tuesday after the convention Weiwei attempted to go visit Erxi at Xiao Ling's apartment after her day of interning but there was no answer on the other end of the door. Weiwei could tell someone was in the apartment from the shadow under the door but whoever it was on the other side of the door refused to answer. Using one of her backup plans Weiwei stated quite loudly that if the door was not answered within the next minute she would be contacting Xiao Ling to get a key sent to her. The threat worked and an upset Erxi cracked the door open to tell Weiwei to her face to go away and leave her alone. The Department Belle was confused at Erxi's hostile reaction and did the only thing she could think of to get answers. She shoved her foot into the door before Erxi could fully shut the door on her and pushed her way inside so the two could have the conversation outside of Xiao Ling's neighbors' eyes.
Frowning, Weiwei demanded to know why Erxi was so upset at her in a no nonsense tone that always caused everyone who had ever heard that tone to spill their guts. Erxi looked upset before exploding saying "Why must everything good in my life be because either people think I am you or want to use me to get to you?! My internship they only gave it to me because they thought I was you and Cao Guang. I knew he was trying to get close to me so he could get information on how to get close to you. But hearing the words come out of his mouth..."
Erxi paused trying to find the right words to express the unfairness of the situation but before she could continue Weiwei's eyes narrowed at that confession and cut in with a deathly cold voice. "So you knowingly spent time with Cao Guang even though you knew he had bribed classmates to spy on me?" It was more of a statement than a question. "You do remember that he was the one that falsely accused me on the school forum that I had a sugar daddy? And yet you willingly spent time with him? You do realize that if I did not get that bit of slander cleared up and removed that my scholarships could have been in jeopardy? That I would have to leave school if I lost my scholarships because there would have been no way that my parents would have been able to afford for me to go to school here and that being dismissed under such circumstances would have made it near impossible to continue my college career at any institution? Essentially ruining what future that I had planned." Shaking her head in disgust. "I thought you were my friend, Erxi but clearly I was mistaken." With that Weiwei opened the door behind her and promptly walked out of the apartment not bothering to look back.
She kept her stony exterior up until she exited the building and was a good few kilometers down the road until she was sure she was by herself before she allowed her mask to finally crumble and break down in tears. She knew that Erxi could be shallow and immature but this was way too much for her. How could she? Weiwei thought that the older girl was her friend. Weiwei took a deep breath before she pulled her phone out of her bag and started to dial her boyfriend's number.
Back in his office Xiao Nai glanced at his ringing phone in question. Wondering why his darling wife was calling him so soon after going to see her friend. The moment he heard her broken voice asking for him to come pick her up he was out the door after enigmatically telling the staff that everyone could have the night off. His former roommates stared at the door in question before shrugging it off and started to go about to figure out what they should do with their newly found night off.
Xiao Nai's mind was going into overdrive. He had never heard his strong, confident wife so fragile. To say that it frightened him would be an understatement. Hundreds of scenarios were running through his mind as he drove to the location that Weiwei said that she was waiting at. The twenty minutes it took had to have been the most excruciating of his life. When he finally spotted her it took all of his will power not to fly out of the car and wrap her up in his arms so he could keep her safe from the rest of the world. Keeping a white knuckle grip firmly on the steering wheel he waited until Weiwei got into the car and buckled her seatbelt before driving in the direction of his parents' home. He said nothing as he waited for her to broach the subject first as he drove. Only occasionally glancing out of the corner of his eye from time to time to check on her. Xiao Nai's gut clenched as he witnessed the tears softly streaming down his strong wife's ivory cheeks. His jaw clenched but he still said nothing. He knew that Weiwei would tell him everything once she was able to process what she was feeling and not to push the subject until she was ready.
